Preparation For Donating Blood When You Have A Tattoo

Can one donate blood after getting a tattoo? – Dr. Sanjay Phutane

If you are safe to donate blood with your tattoo, great! There are a couple of things that you will need to do before you donate the blood first in order to ensure that the whole process goes well. Its really important that you adhere correctly to the procedure when you have a tattoo.

If its still okay for you to donate blood, then its a good idea to leave around 6-8 weeks between getting the tattoo and donating blood just to be safe. This will give your skin enough time to heal from the tattoo. Theres also a much lower risk of transmitting diseases.

Its important to remember that when you get a tattoo and in the weeks following it, your immune system function isnt as good. For that reason, its a good idea to ensure that you do things to increase the efficiency of your immune system before you donate blood.

This includes having a diet thats full of iron and is clean, having things such as spinach, beans, and red meat that are high in iron.

Its also a good idea to stay physically active as this will help to reduce your stress levels, which is important since stress can have a huge effect on the way that your body operates.

Have lots of juice and water in your diet too in order to flush out any toxins from your system so youre ready and raring to go for your tattoo.

Does Donating Plasma Hurt

Plasma donating should feel the same as donating blood. You naturally wont want to move your arm about while the plasma is being extracted, but there is no active pain sensation. There will be a slight and very temporary pinch sensation in the spot where the needle is inserted, but once it is in, there shouldnt be any discomfort.

During the collection process, try to relax and distract yourself with your phone or listen to music. There may be a slightly uncomfortable sensation where the needle is inserted, but since you know its only temporary, it doesnt bother most people.

After the donation is complete, there may be slight soreness or a bit of bruising where the needle was inserted. This is usually very minor. You should wear your band-aid with pride and let everyone know that you have been on a life-saving mission.

What Should I Bring With Me

If youre a first-time donor, youll need a current, valid photo ID and proof of your Social Security number. If your photo ID does not include your current address, a piece of mail postmarked within the past 30 days or a current lease may be used as proof of address. Active military are to provide the address where they receive mail & their physical address.

Our centers have free WiFi and HD televisions to help you pass the time while donating. Feel free to bring books, tablets, magazines, and music players or smartphones .

Please note, phone calls and photography are not permitted in our donation centers out of respect for all our donors and their privacy.

I Know The Person Donated Why Have I Not Been Paid

Most of the time, when we see a donor not being paid, its because the referral code was not applied to the first-time donation of who they referred. The referral code can only be applied during that very first visit. Additionally, the referred friend must be a first time donor, and not a previous donor with Octapharma Plasma. Otherwise, payments are typically received within 24 hours of each donation.

What Is The Process For Donating Blood

After you arrive at a Southern California Blood Bank or San Diego Blood Bank donation center or blood drive, there are typically four steps. The donation process usually takes 45 minutes to an hour.

1. Answer a questionnaire about travel history, lifestyle, medications and general health.

2. Receive a health screen to ensure your wellbeing and determine any barriers to donation.

3. Donate blood. The process itself takes about 10 minutes for whole blood, during which you can lay back and relax. Many donors think of this as me time that saves lives.

4. Sit in the canteen for 15 minutes while you enjoy a well-deserved beverage and snack.

Next, your donation is taken to the lab and gets processed in a centrifuge to separate it into three different lifesaving components. Once testing is completed to ensure safety of the blood components, 24/7 dispatchers deliver it to the hospital, where it is used to help someone in need.
