Can Pharmacy Technicians Have Fake Nails

Being An Ultrasound Tech After 2 YEARS? | Pay, Growth, Traveling etc.

Whether pharmacy technicians can wear fake nails depends on where they work, and what duties they are expected to perform.

You see, artificial nails are not allowed for anyone performing IV compounding operations.

Now, IV compounding is much more common in hospital pharmacies than it is in retail establishments. Meaning that retail pharmacies are a better option for anyone who doesnt want to forgo their acrylics.

But what if youre not bothered about fake nails? What if youd just like to wear some simple nail polish?

Tattoo Discrimination And Civil Rights

According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission , an employer can establish a dress code and appearance policies as long as they dont discriminate against a person on the basis of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

You may be denied a healthcare job opportunity if the employer believes your tattoo violates their internal appearance policies. Yet, a large portion of hospital personnel have ink, which indicates that appearance rules are usually flexible.

  • 76% of employees feel tattoos and piercings hurt job interview chances
  • 73% of people say they would hire staff that had visible tattoos
  • 6% of tattooed people say they wouldn’t hire someone with visible ink
  • Only 4% of tattooed or pierced people say they’ve actually faced discrimination at their current job

Is It Legal For Companies To Discriminate Against Someone Because They Have A Tattoo

In the US, tattoos in the workplace are protected by the Constitution, but not federally. Employers can’t discriminate for things like gender, age, disability, national origin, or pregnancy, but the truth is that hiring managers do discriminate and they are within their rights to do so.

There are no laws that prevent them from not hiring people with visible tattoos, piercings, uncommon hairstyles, and other things. If they believe your appearance would be offensive to their customers or inappropriate in their work environment, it is legal for them not to hire you. Many jobs have dress codes and rules against visible tattoos at work.

What Kinds Of Tattoos Make Finding A Job Difficult

The more visible a tattoo is, the more likely it is to cause an HR representative to think twice about hiring you. Ink on your face, neck, sleeve, or hand is harder to hide. And any visible tattoo that falls under these categories might also prevent a company from offering you the job:

Can Pharmacy Technicians Have Tattoos

OK, so theres no law stating that pharmacy technicians cant have tattoos. After all, having ink wont stop you from passing your PTCB exam. But that doesnt stop some pharmacies from having their own policies on visible tattoos.

And while it isnt common for pharmacy policies to ban all tattoos outright, it is fairly common to find rules that state no distasteful tattoos should be visible. Or even that all body art must be covered up by clothes or flesh-colored bandaids.

Now what constitutes a distasteful tattoo is open to interpretation. And often these policies put the final decision on what body art is acceptable to the hiring manager.

But what about the big pharmacy chains? Lets look at CVS as an example:

Statistics About How Tattoos Affect Employment

According to Annie Singer in her article “Tattoos in the Workplace: The Research Forbes Was Too Lazy to Do,” attitudes about ink are rapidly changing, but some negative preconceptions still exist. The takeaways from the most recent and reputable studies indicate

  • Grooming and professional clothing were more important to HR decision-makers than tattoos and piercings.
  • Visible tattoos had a negative effect on hiring, mostly due to managers’ concern about customers’ perceptions.
  • Customers continue to show a preference for non-tattooed front-line staff.

So although the cultural perception is slowly shifting, visible tattoos may still have a negative impact on employment, particularly in customer-facing positions.

According to STAPAW ,

  • The military has the highest percentage of tattooed staff agriculture comes next.
  • Although the government has the most lenient tattoo and piercing policies, only 8% of those employees have ink or piercings.

Can A Professor Write A Reference Letter For Me

Yes, professors can provide structured letters of reference as a professional, but can not provide personal recommendations on behalf of students for the application.

The application to the radiologic technology program requires two letters of recommendation, but we encourage applicants to ask three to four potential references in case the reference letter does not come through. It is a good idea to provide your references with pre-stamped envelopes addressed to the Lowry Center for Health and Natural Sciences for their convenience.

There Are Many Jobs That Allow Tattoos

Despite the fact that tattoos are becoming more and more commonplace, there remains a stigma in many workplaces towards people who sport them. For those who have tattoos on their backs, arms, stomachs, and legs, this stigma is inconsequential. With the appropriate attire, their bosses and colleagues need never know about their ink.

But what about those of us who made body art decisions that are visible for all to see? What about those of us who are perhaps a little bit stubborn and insist on wearing our ink proudly? What jobs are available to us?

Since my first tattoo , I have kept tabs on job opportunities where eyebrows and objections wont be raised about my appearance. I have the great pleasure of sharing with you the substantial fruits of that search.

    Get Ready for the Patient

Clearly, you realize that ultrasound techs will be performing ultrasound exams. You may be wondering though about the process. Here is the flow of meeting with a patient.

Read patient chart, history, reason for the exam, and review prior exam images.

Knowing this information will help you understand what you may be looking for while performing the ultrasound.

Not only that, it will help you prepare for any needs the patient may have. They may be in a wheelchair, have an oxygen tank, or have a communicable disease among many other things.

You will need to tailor the room, personal protection equipment, or the way you conduct the exam for different needs.

    Set Up The Ultrasound Room

For each exam, you will need to set up the table with the items you will need to perform the exam. You will be using a combination of sheets, blankets, towels, and gowns for draping and performing exams.

You may need specialized probes for the exam or even blood pressure cuffs. If its a procedure exam that will require a sterile tray and other items.

If it is a procedure exam you will also need to fill out all the appropriate forms for consent and set them out for the patient and doctor to review and sign. Make sure you grab a pen for them.

Get gel from the warmer, and place it on the machine.

Are Tattoos Acceptable In The Workplace

Lets begin this discussion by taking a look at tattoos and workplaces in general. Tattoos have long been frowned upon at workplaces not only inside the United States but globally.

Any potential employee identified with visible tattoos was stereotyped as rebellious, unintelligent, unstable and prone to drugs. Potential employees who were able to hide their tattoos were more likely to be hired than those sporting visible tattoos.

And while this negative outlook has improved significantly over the past few decades, most institutions still hold reservations against their employees meeting clients or showing up to work with visible tattoos.

Tattoos that can easily be hidden are now tolerated in many professional settings but visible tattoos remain an issue with some employers. Unfortunately, therere no regulations preventing employers from making their hiring decisions based on visible tattoos.

What Does An Ultrasound Tech Do In Their Niche

If youve been wondering about the different niches within sonography, this is the section for you. Im going to give a BRIEF rundown of the types of exams each niche performs.

Many of these niches will overlap as some techs do many of them and it really depends on the facility in which you work.

    Echocardiography

Admittedly, my knowledge here is minimal since I am not an echocardiographer. However, as implied by the name, echocardiographers image the heart. There are three different types of tests that they will do.

    Transthoracic Echocardiogram

The transthoracic echocardiogram is the test most people think of when they think of a heart ultrasound. A small probe is used around the ribs and sternum to image the heart anatomy and evaluate its function.

    Transesophageal Echocardiogram

Transesophageal exams also image the heart but they do it by going through the esophagus so that they can get much closer to the heart.

    Stress Echocardiogram

A stress echocardiogram is an exam that most people refer to as a stress test. The ultrasound tech performs an EKG and transthoracic echocardiogram, the patient exercises, and then they perform another echocardiogram. This helps evaluate the function of the heart.

Here is a link to Cleveland Clinic where they describe these in much more detail.

Should I Go Into Sonography Or Nursing

Nursing is a larger occupation with more opportunities, but sonography is the field that is currently seeing more rapid job growth. Nurses have more opportunity to build a special bond with their patients, but they also have to deal more extensively with the hassles that can arise in providing patient care.

Will A Hand Tattoo Make It Tough To Find A Job

What to Expect: Ultrasound | Cedars-Sinai

I think it depends on the place. Some places are more picky about visible tattoos than others. I’ve only ever worked at facilities that had “zero tolerance” policies for visible tattoos. Meaning if the tattoo shows at all, ever, no matter what, it has to be covered. No matter what it is, or where on your body it is. And they’re not kidding about it either, it’s grounds for a write up if they catch you with them not covered. So I wouldn’t say it would hurt your prospects necessarily, but they’d be sure to thoroughly inform you of the dress code before hiring you, with emphasis on the tattoo policy, and make sure that it was something you’d be willing to abide by.

I really hate that people have to worry about such issues in this profession! It’s such an old fashioned way of thinking and it does not affect your work ethic, professionalism or knowledge whatsoever!! I am quite heavily tattooed, several of my pieces are visible, and not only do my employers not give a damn, but neither do my patients! In fact, I don’t think I have ever received a negative comment about my tattoos and it’s actually a great conversation starter and distraction technique! I wish the whole profession would catch up with the 21st century, tattoos do not have the stigma attached to them that they once had in this day and age!

Why Cant Ultrasound Techs Tell You Anything

If your ultrasound is being performed by a technician, the technician most likely will not be allowed to tell you what the results mean. In that case, you will have to wait for your doctor to examine the images. Ultrasounds are used during pregnancy to measure the fetus and rule out or confirm suspected problems.

    No Effect On Teachers Ability

While some institutions and parents may have reservations, having visible tattoos has no negative effect on the teachers ability to successfully administer their duties.

Tattoos are simply life choices someone may use to express themselves. These have no effect on the teachers ability to remain professional as a teacher.

    Do Mris Cause Tattoo Irritation

    Pin on Sonography. It

Getting an MRI is normally an easy and harmless experience. With state-of-the-art technology and professional medical specialists guiding every step of the procedure, there are rarely complications.

Unfortunately, patients with tattoos may not have a totally painless experience when getting an MRI. In extremely rare cases, patients with tattoos can have adverse reactions when undergoing MRIs including burning, irritation, or general discomfort on the tattoo.

People with tattoos experience adverse side effects less than 1% of the time. In one particular study, only one participant out of 330 complained of any effects of pulling, burning, or irritation around the site of their tattoo, with the irritation ultimately not requiring medical attention and disappearing after 24 hours.

However, the more tattoos you have, the more likely you could experience discomfort because of the increased amount of ink on your skin. So the next question is, how does tattoo ink and MRIs interact?

Can You Get A Tattoo As A Teacher

No. Most educational institutions frown on teachers with visible tattoos and can make hiring or firing decisions based on it. Although few, some institutions, however, have no reservations against their teachers having tattoos.

Its advisable to hide any tattoos when going for teacher interviews or in the case of a working teacher as most institutions have reservations against this.

They believe these teachers look unprofessional and would become a negative influence on their students.

    Is Becoming A Sonographer Hard

    Difficult but Worth the Effort

It does take time to complete a program. One of the best choices is a program leading to an Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. It takes two years to complete, but the degree from a CAAHEP accredited program qualifies the sonography student to take the ARDMS exams.
