Vigo Health Dept Reports On Tattoo Piercing Parlors To Be Available In Paper

Vigo County health officials make unannounced inspections twice a year at the six licensed tattoo and body piercing businesses in the county, and now those reports can be viewed quarterly by the public.
Since we have a different form, it is easier to write up a brief synopsis of violations. I said I would look into this after the ordinance passed last year, DeBoy said.
Vigo County first passed a county tattoo and body-piercing ordinance in late 1999, effective Jan. 1, 2000. The county revised that ordinance in 2006. Last year, the county passed a new ordinance with revisions such as requiring artists and tattoo shops to be licensed and tattoo artists to be at least 18 years old.
Other changes include eliminating the piercing of genitalia or nipples for those under the age of 18 and requiring a higher quality of jewelry be used for initial piercings. Jewelry must be 14 karat or higher white or yellow nickel-free gold. Nickel in lower-quality jewelry can cause skin reactions.
The revised ordinance prohibits branding and scarification, which had previously been permitted, and implants, suspension and tongue splitting.

Scars And Stories Tattoo Owner Reacts To Damage Caused By Devastating Wabash Avenue Fire

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – News 10 continues its coverage of a fire in Terre Haute that happened on Friday evening. It started at a strip of businesses near 18th and Wabash Avenue. These businesses are connected to one another. No one was injured, but damage from this fire is extensive.
One of the businesses that saw significant damage due to this fire was Scars and Stories Tattoo. Its located at 1715 Wabash Avenue. News 10 spoke with owner Branden Martin to get his reaction in the aftermath of this unfortunate situation.
Its like we lost our second home, Martin said, Those guys therewe are all family. We all run the shop together. We all do a group effort and just to have it be goneits pretty hard.
He says the water and smoke damage took out everything in the shop. The ceiling collapsed in and almost nothing was salvageable. He says their daily tools, inks, and most of their machinery is now gone. Martin says its a helpless and sickening feeling.
Im a mix of emotions, Martin said, Its like, youre glad that everybody made it out, but youre also kind of a wreck from knowing that a business that all of us created and pushed really hard to build is gone in a matter of a few hours.
Were not done. Were coming back stronger than ever, Martin concluded, COVID-19 didnt stop us and well, neither is a fire. Its just one hurdle for 2020.
Queen City Tattoos From Obscurity To Royalty
Local tattoo parlor, Queen City Tattoos, visited campus and spoke about their business and efforts to become one of the top tattoo shops in Terre Haute on Wednesday.
Good ideas are super prevalent, but they take some creativity and a little bit of effort. This is what Jeremy Clarke, co-owner of Queen City Tattoos had to say about starting your own business as part of the universitys Innovation Speaker Series.
On Wednesday, Clarke and his wife, Carrie, came to the College of Technology at ISU to talk about their journey from obscurity to being one of the most popular and successful businesses in Terre Haute.
They attribute their success to the list of fundamentals which they follow unabashedly: Have a clear vision, work the land, love failure, find a mastermind, make noise, get out of your own way, and dont chase the money.
Clarke, who led most of the talk, expanded broadly on these concepts. When talking about having a clear vision for Queen City, explained that its important to be specific with that vision and to stick with it and be uncompromising.
Working the land also somewhat ties into another fundamental ideal, which is to make noise. Clarke talked about Queen Citys use of social media and the importance of getting the brand out there any way possible. He talked about how they ordered coasters, for instance, and distributed them to various bars and restaurants around the area.
