What Is The Best Soap For Washing A New Tattoo

Tattoo Real-Time CLEAN OUTLINES AND COLOR PACKING

Its important to realize that a new tattoo needs to be washed regularly as you begin the tattoo healing process.

When you get home with a new tattoo and you still have the wrap on your tattoo you will need to remove the wrap before you sleep. If you got the tattoo later in the day you may choose to leave it on overnight.

Once the wrap is removed you will want to use a non-scented, anti-bacterial soap to clean the tattoo. On the first day I tend to clean my tattoos multiple times to remove the dried blood from the wrap and to keep the area sanitary.

How often do I wash my tattoo with soap?

Over the next week, I generally wash my tattoos every morning upon waking up, and every night before going to sleep.

If you tend to sweat a lot, or work out consistently you will want to wash it after the activity to keep the tattoo clean.

It is important to keep the washing sessions brief and efficient. You do not want to expose your new tattoo to water for long periods of time.

When can I stop using soap on my new tattoo?

I tend to utilize my non-scented, anti-bacterial soap throughout the tattoo healing process whenever I am in the shower. Once your tattoo starts to peel and hit the final stages of the healing process I use less and less but I am sure to cover the area gently in a layer of soap to continuously keep the area clean.

When my tattoo no longer has pain to the touch and it looks as though it has set I still will use soap sparingly as I see fit.

Cetaphil Deep Cleansing Face & Body Bar

What I have here for you is a hypoallergenic cleaning soap bar. The brand is Cetaphil, which brings into the picture quality and effectiveness. Obviously, this was not specifically created as a soap for tattoos. But that doesnt really matter because the deep cleansing bar is packed with ingredients that do all of that and more.

But before anything else, let me tell you that this Cetaphil product eliminates all possible allergens from the skin. Its one of the main reasons why the face and body bar is so popular. It is the most suitable for those that have dry or delicate skin.

What makes it appropriate for tattoo use is the soaps ability to deal with skin inflammation. It doesnt contain even a single brutal cleansing agent to aggravate your fresh tattoo wound. The job of purifying the skin is carried out without any side effects. The bar of soap saturates your skin while also hydrating and smoothing out the surface.

You can use it on your body and face, isnt that convenient! Many people opt for Cetaphil for not only tattoo aftercare. This particular soap formula also saves your skin from clogged pores and is a good soap to prevent acne breakouts too.

Youd expect an antibacterial soap like this to have a neutral or no scent. But, unfortunately, thats not what the real picture looks like. On the contrary, the smell is quite unpleasant.

Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before starting, says Zeichner, to ensure a germ- and bacteria-free workspace. Then, gently rinse the area with your just-right, lukewarm water and soap of choice, carefully removing any oozing, scabbing, or crust, Zeichner says. He recommends using an antibacterial soappreferably one thats fragrance-, alcohol- and therefore irritant-free to disinfect the area. Just as you did when you washed your hands in kindergarten, wash the skin while you sing the alphabet to ensure you have given the cleanser enough time to do its job, he adds. Sounds silly, but the timing truly works.

After you are finished, he says to pat the area dry extremely carefully with a clean, never-used paper towel. Skip anything abrasive, especially a washcloth, which can harbor germs and bacteria whether freshly out of the laundry or not. If your artist recommended it, then apply a lotion or ointment of their choiceotherwise, leave it be.

However, if youre applying a targeted lotion or ointment, its imperative to wait until the area is completely dry before slathering it onotherwise, unwanted moisture may get trapped underneath the skin.

Youll want to wash it approximately twice a daymore if youre getting sweaty during work or during a workoutand continue for about a month, even after it begins to peel. The same washing instructions apply once the peeling and scabbing begin, but use extra caution to not tear away any of the old skin.

Is It Ok For Clothes To Touch A New Tattoo

So, What Kind Of Clothes Should I Wear Over a New Tattoo? After getting a tattoo, and during the healing process, which can last between 2 weeks and a month in its initial and most important stage, you should be wearing loose-fitting clothes. That is of course if the tattoo is placed on your body apart from the neck, head, and feet.

  • For those areas, you need to pay special attention, especially in the case of feet tattoo
  • Loose clothes will cover the tattoo so much so that it stays protected
  • There is a lower chance the fabric will stick to the tattoo and introduce contaminants as well

There will be minimal or rubbing of the fabrics against the tattoo, which will significantly minimize healing issues or the chance of an infection. Note: After getting a new tattoo, it will be wrapped and well protected. You can wear loose clothes over the wrap and not really worry about it.

What To Look For In The Best Soaps For Tattoos

When choosing tattoo soaps, our philosophy is simple: less is more. As in, the fewer ingredients, the better. The best tattoo soap wont be chock full of chemicals, additives, dyes and fragrances, which can further irritate your skin while healing.

A lot of people have different allergies and sensitivities to their skin that they might not even know about, so to avoid triggering these, the soap needs to be as pure as possible, with as few ingredients as possible, no additives and 100% fragrance-free, Woo says. You should skip the heavy topical steroid creams. It would help if you also avoided heavy ointments that dont let the skin breathe because they can seal in harmful bacteria. For the first couple weeks, staying out of the sun and salt water is also important.

Woo launched WOO Gentle Cleansing Soap to help create one of the best tattoo soaps of all time. You want the perfect balance of letting the skin heal without letting it get too dry because it can break and lift the ink, he explains. Thats why our gentle soap was created. It can help remove impurities and possible bacteria in the most gentle of ways. Each ingredient was hand-selected to do specifically this. Nobody had focused on creating a bar of soap with this mind.
