Are Tattoos Bad For Your Health

What Are The Best Tattoo Lotions & Creams Available In 2020

The benefits of this burgeoning world of new tattoo care are many – among them, avoiding irritation and infection. More importantly, these tattoo aftercare products help with healing and preserve the design and colors of your awesome new tat. Whether your ink is fresh, or somewhat “mature” like mine, many of these products claim to refresh and renew your tattoos, to keep them looking their best.

Since people with tattoos love to expose a bit more skin than the average un-inked person, you’ll also need to think about protecting your tats from the sun’s damaging UV rays, and believe it or not, there are even tattoo specific sunscreens.

As you’re healing, avoid spending a lot of time in the water, especially pools and hot tubs that are often laden with unseen bacteria. Your risk of infection is much greater during this important time. Also, find some comfy and loose-fitting clothes that won’t rub or chafe your new tat. That will keep you from agitating already tender skin and making it itchy or causing a rash. And sweating, even if you’re a gym rat, may cause additional issues during the healing phase.

After removing the pack, you might see leaking liquids. Don’t be scared or grossed out by this, as this is normal and expected. The liquid is a mixture of plasma, blood, and the extra ink that is inadvertently in our skin. It is recommended that you wash the area of the tattooed skin first with warm water. Always use a high-quality Tattoo Aftercare Soap, and afterwards be sure to gently pat dry with a paper towel or cloth that absorbs water and moisture. After all of the moisture is absorbed, keep the area dry for 20 to 25 minutes. As soon as your skin is dry from the wash, you should apply a very small amount of professional Tattoo Aftercare Cream but be sure to let the area have have plenty of air and ventilation. This process is a well known tattoo aftercare routine, and can help your skin recover faster.

Wearing Saniderm While Showering Swimming And Exercising

Showering while wearing Saniderm is fine, but its best to keep the time spent in the shower to a minimum. Water may weaken the adhesive of the bandage, which allows for unwanted contaminants to enter the bandage, putting you at higher risk for infection. Its also important to keep an eye on the temperature of the water. Too much heat can separate the bandage from the skin, inflame the skin, and irritate the tattoo.

For these reasons, bathing, swimming, or fully submerging a tattoo dressed in Saniderm is strongly discouraged. Light exercise while wearing Saniderm is fine, but avoid activity that causes excessive sweating. Just as water will weaken the adhesion of the bandage, so will sweat and any other significant amount of fluid. Try to keep the bandage as clean and dry as possible until its time to remove it.

How Does Dark Skin Affect Tattoo Colors

There is a great diversity in skin tones, and this is mostly influenced by peoples genetics. Skin pigmentation is mainly due to melanin, which is a substance located in the outermost layer of the skin, called the epidermis. During the tattoo process, the tattoo artist deposits ink into the dermis, which is the layer of skin below the epidermis.

The epidermis and the melanins pigmentation within it act as a filter, laying over the top of the tattoo. Therefore, a tattoo on a person with a light skin tone may show color more brightly. A person with dark pigmentation in their skin may have the same colors in their design, but they may appear more muted.

Darker colors such as royal blues, dark reds, greens, and black may show more clearly than lighter colors on dark skin. However, tattoo artists can still incorporate lighter colors to create a colorful design. For example, white ink on a dark skin tone may still be visible but heal as a slightly darker color.

An experienced tattoo artist will take notice of a persons skin tone and may consult with them on what colors are likely to work best. Although different skin tones may show tattoo colors differently, bright, colorful tattoos are still an option for any skin tone.

Saniderm Removal And Reapplication Of 2nd Bandage

  • To remove Saniderm, find an edge of the bandage and pull it back over itself in the direction of hair growth. The shower is the ideal place to remove Saniderm. Running water will help loosen the adhesive and relax the skin, making the removal much more comfortable. Dry removal of Saniderm may cause discomfort and added trauma to the skin.
  • Discard the used bandage and wash the tattoo with a mild soap, preferably fragrance-free.
  • Allow the tattoo to air dry or pat dry with a clean towel.
  • If desired, apply a thin layer of aftercare product to your tattoo. If you have naturally oily skin or live in a high humidity climate, feel free to skip this step. Otherwise, use a thin layer of petroleum-free moisturizer to help the tattoo retain moisture and itch less. Sanibalm is the perfect remedy for dry skin! If you plan on applying another bandage, apply the product to the tattoo only and avoid getting it on the surrounding skin. Saniderm does not adhere well to wet/moist skin.
  • Apply a second bandage by following the application steps listed above.

Help Your Tattoo Heal With These Tips

Here are some tattoo tips you can follow to help your healing process along:

    • Plasma that oozes from your new tattoo is what causes wounds to scab. Gently pat away wet plasma to keep it from forming big scabs that could dry out and crack.

    • Use cold to lukewarm water to wash your tattoo. Water that is too hot can open up your pores and cause ink to leach out.

    • If your skin is extra sensitive and hurts to pat dry after washing, you can use a hair dryer on a cool setting to dry your tattoo instead.

    • Use old clean bed sheets that you dont care about the first few nights after getting your tattoo. Your new tattoo will probably leak blood and ink, and stain your sheets.

    • Make sure your tattoo is completely dry before you apply ointment. If not, it could trap moisture between your skin and the ointment, causing scabs to swell or become gooey.

    • If your tattoo is really itchy, you can apply a cold compress. Itll take away the itchiness immediately, without having to scratch. This should only be done after your skins top layer has completely healed.

    • Drink LOTS of water. Your tattoo only looks as good as your skin. The more you hydrate, the better, and more vivid your tattoo will look.

    • Do NOT listen to the advice of friends or family. A lot of people might say they know ways to quicken your tattoos healing process, but always stick to your artists instructions.
