You Must Let It Fully Heal First

MY LASER TATTOO REMOVAL RESULTS! | Tattoo Removal on Dark Skin

You may think that since the tattoo is fresh that getting it removed right away is the best course of action since the ink hasnt fully settled in your skin. Unfortunately, this is not viable, and no professional tattoo removal service will accept you until the tattoo has fully healed. While it may appear to have healed after a week or even a few days, it hasnt. Most tattoos take anywhere from 6-8 weeks, while larger ones can take up to 6-months. A reputable tattoo removal clinic/studio will be able to gauge how recently you received the tattoo, but trust us when we state that its in your best interest to be completely honest with them about how long it has been. Otherwise you put yourself at risk of infection and other complications. For this reason you must treat your unwanted tattoo the same way that you would one that youre happy with. That means following the prescribed aftercare regime. The better and faster it heals, the sooner you can get it removed.

Even if the design is so bad that you cant bear to look at it, just cover it up, be patient, and book your appointment for when the time is right. That said, we absolutely encourage you to come in for a consultation at our tattoo removal studio. Our specialists will guide you through the initial process, can follow up with you to monitor healing progress, and will be ready to begin your treatments as soon as viable.

Make Sure To Block Out Your Schedule

While some laser sessions are quick and easy, not all are. Mine have been taking about 45 minutes because we take before photos, clean the areas, inject them with lidocaine for freezing, laser them, ice them, and then bandage them. Oh, and sometimes a weird side effect happens where I taste metal when the laser hits my skin. Adams says it’s a sensation that some people experience when the lidocaine is hit by the laser and that it’s totally normal.

Rest For 48 Hours After Each Appointment

Avoid physical activity for 48 hours after each session.

Too much moving around, running or working out will make your blisters much worse, if you develop them.

If your blisters get too big, they can pop too soon. You need to avoid inducing these types of skin related side effects, if you can.

You need to keep your immune system focused only on the fragmented ink.

Elevating the site will also help in that first 48 hours.

First Laser Session For Another Section Of The Barbed Wire

I am pretty amazed at how much lighter the barbed wire is after only a few weeks of one laser session. I definitely won’t need many treatments here.

I have also decided to laser off the entire branch right next to the barbed wire. Without the barbed wire there, it’ll be a little easier for me to take off a bunch of branches and flowers.

I continue to lighten the entire tree at home, but I have to stop on the areas I’m going to get the laser on. I still work on the parts I can work on when I can. If I can at least lighten it as much as possible before the laser, I’ll hopefully need less treatments on the tree.

Avoid Excessive Alcohol Consumption

Heavy consumption of alcohol will hinder and slow down the results.

Too much alcohol will dehydrate your body and compromise your immune system.

What? But I enjoy a beer or two a day!

Improper Aftercare Or Incorrect Protocols Pose A Risk

While it is uncommon to cause scarring from the laser tattoo removal sessions themselves, it is still possible. For example, if you use excessive fluence when treating a tattoo and cause unwanted side effects , scarring may occur.

Another risk for scarring, even if the treatment is performed properly, happens when patients fail to follow aftercare instructions. Blisters and scabs are common side effects that are important in the tattoo removal healing process. However, picking scabs or not caring properly for blisters can allow scarring to happen. When discussing aftercare with your patients, make sure to emphasize their role in the outcome of their tattoo removal.

Popular Ways To Get Rid Of A Tattoo

  • Laser: The fastest, safest, and most effective way to remove an unwanted tattoo is laser. Laser works by repeatedly targeting the ink with pulses of highly concentrated light, which breaks the ink into tiny fragments that are then naturally removed by your body.
  • Surgical Excision: Until laser was invented, surgical excision was the only way to remove an unwanted tat. This process involves cutting away the tattooed area and stitching the skin back together. Scarring is likely to occur with this method, but there are good reasons why one might choose surgical excision over laser.
  • Dermabrasion: This method uses a rotating device with a rough surface to sand away the upper layer of skin. As with surgical excision, you will likely develop a scar.
  • TCA : TCA is a chemical peel that abrades the skin superficially and does not effectively remove permanent ink.
  • Intense Pulsed Light : This method is similar to laser in that is also uses an intense beam of light to target the ink. The difference is IPL uses a broad spectrum light, which makes it versatile for other purposes, such as hair removal. On the other hand, laser uses a narrow light that can specifically target a particular color. IPL is less painful because it is less intense, but the pulses are larger and less targeted, so the surrounding skin area can get damaged. IPL is also less effective and much more expensive.

Can I Use Saran Wrap Instead Of Saniderm

Even though saran wrap may seem similar to Saniderm, it is not an appropriate alternative.

Harv Angel, a tattooist, who was quoted in Pacific Daily News says not to use saran wrap. They said, Saran wrap does not absorb the blood and other body fluids that come from a fresh tattoo.

Angel continues, You want the tattoo wrapped in a sterile bandage, something thats absorbent. Saran wrap is a no-no.

Saniderm also implies that saran wrap isnt ideal. They said, Unlike Saran Wrap, Saniderm is a medical-grade, breathable, waterproof tattoo bandage.

Its not that you have to use Saniderm, but your bandage must be sterile so that it doesnt get infected.

How Long Will It Take To Remove My Tattoo

How Soon Can I Have Laser Tattoo Removal After Getting A ...

The duration of the tattoo removal process is a concern for virtually all patients.

Some patients may wish to remove a visible tattoo before an event such as their wedding or enlisting in the military. It’s important to establish upfront that tattoo removal is a process that relies on the body’s ability to eliminate ink from the skin.

It’s not unusual for the body to take over a year to completely eliminate ink. Setting expectations clearly upfront allows patients to be satisfied throughout the experience rather than feeling as if they were misled.

To allow the skin enough time to heal between treatments and the body’s immune system to flush away ink, we recommend a minimum of six weeks between laser sessions and eight weeks for darker complexions. Stacking the treatments too close together can cause damage and permanent side effects to the skin and doesn’t allow the body enough time to remove the ink that was shattered at the most recent session. For ideal results, we recommend waiting three months between treatments.

Ultimately, as a tattoo removal practitioner, you cannot know precisely how many treatments a tattoo will need to be fully removed. However, you should assess the patient’s tattoo for how easily it should remove.
