Customers Flock Back To Reopened Taunton Tattoo Studio Pleasure In Pain
TAUNTON At Pleasure in Pain Tattoo in Taunton, owners Jeff and Jessica Burt and their team of experienced, award-winning artists said they are excited to reopen the shop to the hundreds of customers they have waiting to get inked.
The shop reopened June 22, and though they have to abide by some new state regulations, the couple said because tattooing involves puncturing the body, they were already following many of the sanitation requirements. The artists, for instance, have always done things like wiping down their stations and wearing gloves.
“When we read through what was requiring, it was kind of funny to us because we were like ‘We already do all of this,'” Jeff said.
The only changes in procedure have been wearing a face mask, goggles or glasses and disposable aprons, he said. Though the artists said these can be hot and bothersome to wear while tattooing all day, overall, the transition has not been too difficult.
Jessica, who manages much of the front-of-house work, said they have also taken steps to maintain social distancing in the shop. Normally, clients would come into the shop to have a consultation with their artists and fill out consent forms. Now, all that has to be done outside, and they are called in solely for the procedure only after being screened for coronavirus symptoms.

I came here to get a couple piercings put back in. I had taken them out for years and was ready to have them again. Rob got me right in without an appt and had them done within minutes. Very clean and professional studio. Not to mention great customer service.

Highly recommend Dave. He was recommended to me by a few friends. A couple weeks before my appointment we spoke on the phone where I gave him my idea and vision of what I wanted my tattoo to look like. When I walked in for my appointment, he had my stencil printed and it was exactly what I imagined. He gave me my price upfront. The new shop is very clean and nice! He was very professional. Do Piercings And Tattoos Hurt
That depends. Placement, pain tolerance, the person themselves, are all big factors. Any pain experienced is usually over in a few seconds when it comes to piercings. With tattoos there are even more variables. Length of session, swelling, ink retention, etc. As time goes on in the chair, they definitely can become more sore and tender.
What Happens If I Am Late Or Miss My Appointment
Any no call/no show will forfeit their deposit. If you know you are going to miss your appointment, we like to know 24 hours prior, so that we can fill the slot. If you are just running a bit late, call the shop and let us know. If we do not hear from you 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment, our artists will either take walk ins or try to fill your appointment window with another client.

Our artists are usually very busy and booked up. With the amount of appointments we have, it is pretty difficult to complete a drawing far in advance of an appointment. If our artists do, they will gladly share the design with you. Generally speaking, the artist will present the design to you the day of your appointment, and any minor tweaks or changes can be made then and there.

The shop, at 448 Broadway, also can’t take walk-in appointments, and clients can’t hang out inside the shop or have friends and family with them when they get tattooed. Jessica said this changes the feel of the shop, which normally has a fun group atmosphere. But she said they are willing to do what they need to to keep everyone safe.
“The biggest thing is the learning curve of trying to be as normal as possible and make the client feel as comfortable as possible and be as safe as possible,” she said.
The couple said it’s also been difficult to keep up with the demand for supplies, especially gloves, as their suppliers are now working with many more businesses who are newly using the supplies to meet state requirements.
But despite the inherent risk, Jeff and Jessica said they’ve been bombarded with requests for appointments, and though they expected some people to be hesitant about coming back in, almost no one has turned down the opportunity.
Part of the reason they are so booked up is because they normally book appointments a month ahead and had to cancel all of those planned tattoos when the shop closed in March. So when they reopened, they reached out to those who had previously booked. But on top of that, the shop has received hundreds of requests to get tattooed, and that doesn’t even count the inquiries that their individuals artists have had.
“We’ve been open for a week and a half and we’re still not ahead of it,” Jessica said.
