How to Heal a Lip Piercing Lip Piercing Aftercare Instructions

Inner lip tattoos do not last like most tattoos that you get on the outside of your skin. Their average lifespan is between a year and five years or even less. Since lip tattoos last for a short period of time, inner lip tattoos require regular touch-ups and maintenance. If you dont give them proper care, they will fade and disappear. This is what you need to know about getting a lip tattoo and healing your inner lip tattoo. There are several factors that determine the lifespan of inner lip tattoos. They include:

How To Choose A Permanent Lip Color

The permanent lip color can be done in any shade of red, pink, or orange, but since the results last up to 5 years, you want to be sure youll like wearing the color for all that time.

Thats why most clients go for subtle, flesh-toned shades that are suitable for any occasion and match any makeup look.

Your artist can help you with the color choice, and you should take their recommendations seriously. They have a sharp eye and an extensive knowledge of PMU color theory, so theyll be able to match the pigments to best complement your skin tone and undertone.

How To Make Your Lip Blush Tattoo Last Longer

Once you’ve invested in beautiful lips you’ll want to keep them looking their best for as long as possible.

Many factors determine how long they last and how vibrant the color stays but your commitment to aftercare is one of the most important factors that determine the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo.

How Is The Lip Tattoo Done

Permanent lip color is injected into the skin of the lips with an electric device similar to a tattoo machine, but adapted for permanent makeup. The needle opens up the skin and deposits PMU pigments into it in a million tiny dots.

The saturation of those dots determines how opaque and dramatic the look will be. If you want a more sheer effect, less trauma is done to the skin. But if you want a full lip color that looks opaque, many passes have to be made to saturate the lips enough for a lipstick effect and they suffer more trauma.

When the lips start closing up those incisions, a scab is formed. Once it falls off, your gorgeous enhanced lips are revealed.

Cosmetic tattoo artists also help to correct skin discoloration and pigmentation issues.

One of the latest procedures artists and practitioners are using to enhance and correct facial features is called lip blushing, also known as a lip blush tattoo. Its a natural-looking cosmetic tattoo procedure that is offered in both tattoo studios and high-end spas.

We asked New York-based cosmetic tattoo artist Savannah Kondratyev to give us the run-down on what lip blushing actually is and what you need to know if youre interested in getting a lip blush tattoo.

Although your tattoo artist will give you a list of tips to follow and precautions to take post-lip tattoo, we have some tips that will help you to enjoy longer results. Follow these tips and let us know if they worked on you too like others.

Tips to make lip tattoo stay on longer:

  • Avoid washing your lip with any antibacterial soap or even normal soap.
  • Do not apply any body lotion, lip gloss, or lipstick on the lips.
  • Let the lip heal completely if you wish to enjoy long term results.
  • Try placing a paper towel under your tongue to avoid saliva from touching your lips.
  • Do not think of retouching the lips until they are completely healed.
  • Make sure that your tattoo artist uses sterile tools only as lips are the most sensitive part of your body.
  • To enjoy longer results, ask your designer to give you thinner lines as thinner lines keep the lines close to each other.
  • Rinse your mouth well before and after the tattoo to avoid any contact with bacteria or infection.
  • Lip tattoos are risky and can be done only by a professional artist. We urge you not to experiment with your lips and only choose an experienced tattoo designer! An experienced artist will guide you the best and will ensure that you do not need many re-touches.
  • Remember, touch-ups can be risky and so you must take all the precautions advised by your tattoo artist to enjoy longer results.
  • The bottom line is you need to keep the lip area dry and avoid too much moisture to enjoy longer life.

Things To Avoid After A Lip Blushing Procedure

You’ll want to strictly stay away from chemical peels, and other skin rejuvenating products around the mouth area. It will wear your color off prematurely. Immediately following the procedure you will want to avoid foods that will cause sensitivity. Nothing too hot or cold. If lips feel dry apply a thin layer and a and d ointment.

Kissing

One of the most commonly asked questions we get asked is how long you need to wait to use your lips sexually following the procedure. You must wait a week to involve lips in anything that will cause friction. No kissing for sure. No matter how clean your partner is the fact is that every human being has bacteria, and that bacteria can be transferred to the lips and cause possible infection as well. Better to be safe than sorry! Of course, additional touch ups can be done to fix the damage, but why waste your money? If you are investing in yourself and getting this wonderful procedure that will make you glow, take care of it!

Dehydration

In general, after having lip blushing done you want to stay hydrated. You may drink alcohol or caffeine again but I would limit the amounts you take in. Those substances can cause the body to dry out from within. We all know whatever happens on the inside of your body can reflect on the outside as well. You will want to drink plenty of water as you go through the healing process to keep yourself hydrated. This is an important step to ensuring best results once totally healed. Ã

Are Inside Lip Tattoos Permanent

It is always worth considering whether inner or inside lip tattoos are permanent. After all, these are not easy on the wallets and not all can afford to go for frequent re-touches.

If you compare other regular tattoos on the various parts of the body, inner lip tattoos tend to fade much sooner.

The shelf-life of your inner tattoo also depends on how your skin takes it during the healing process.

As we explained earlier, that a skin tattoo wound takes about 2 to 3 weeks to complete the healing process however, lips can heal faster and so lip tattoos heal in only 2 to 3 days.

To get the best results for lip tattoos, we recommend the following products. You may discuss these with your tattoo artist and check if he is ok to try those on you:

Side Effects Of Lip Tattoos

Aftercare for semi

Because of the location of lip tattoos, the healing period tends to be easily interrupted, and side effects are common. Its important to follow the recommended healing procedure and keep an eye on your tattoo for any signs of a problem.

The biggest risk for lip tattoos is infection, says Nazarian. The oral mucosa has a high density of bacteria and is more challenging to keep consistently clean.

To combat the probability of an infection, Nazarian recommends seeking out a professional tattoo artist who has a lot of experience with lip tattoos specifically and making sure they use sterile tools and proper techniques.

During the aftercare period, look out for any changes in the appearance of your new tattoo. While some swelling and redness are common right after getting inked, prolonged effects may indicate a worsening problem.

Infections of the skin are classically painful, swollen, accompanied by fever, and worsen with time, says Nazarian.

Another common issue is scarring, which can occur if a proper aftercare procedure isnt followed. This can cause your tattoo to look warped and your lip to have a permanent scar thats not as good-looking as your new tattoo.

How To Prepare For A Lip Blushing Session

If you have a lip blush tattoo booked, there are a few things that you can do to prepare for your appointment to help everything go smoothly.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours prior to your appointment. It can cause bruising because the lips are such a delicate area, says Kondratyev.

If you are someone who regularly gets cold sores, Kondratyev recommends taking cold sore medication three days before and three days after your lip blush appointment. The process can trigger an outbreak, and cold sores mess with the healing process, she says.

If you use products like Vitamin C serums or retinoids in your beauty and skincare routine, Kondratyev recommends taking a break from these two weeks prior to your appointment. The same goes for facial waxing, laser, botox, or chemical peels.

Women who have lip fillers can get a lip blush tattoo. However, fillers should be done at least six weeks prior to the lip blush appointment for best results.

Otherwise, to prepare for a lip blush tattoo, Kondratyev recommends exfoliating your lips the day before and using a balm or moisturizer to help keep the surface of your lips smooth and fresh on the day of your appointment.

What Goes Into Post

Day 1

On the first day, your body will produce lymphatic fluid , this is what your body produces when it Is healing to form a scab, use sterile water wipes à given to you after the lip blushing process to remove this fluid 1-2 hours after procedure. Allow lips to settle and dry a bit. Then apply a very thin layer of a& d ointment/ aquaphor/ coconut oil to the lips periodically. I don’t recombined using any other lip balm as some lip balm can contain ingredients that will pull pigment from the freshly tattooed skin. Lips will be sensitive on this day. Avoid food that is too hot/too cold or too spicy/ citrus. Lip will without a doubt have some sort of swelling immediately after the procedure. Each client is different. Some will swell up like balloons while others will leave with hardly any swelling at all. It all depends on your body chemistry. Either way there is absolutely no need to worry about swelling. It’s completely normal, and although it can be intimidating to see at first, it will not last, and it is apart of the healing process.

Moisturizing

Don’t Pick!

Lips will become dry and flaky. DO NOT pick or exfoliate the lips. Allow the skin to shed on its own. If you pick the skin as it is trying to shed it will compromise the lip color and its final healed results. Wherever you picked the skin will be missing color. Apply moisturizer and ride it out.

Lip Blush Tattoo Costs

The cost of a lip blush tattoo will vary depending on your location and the studio or artist you choose to do your procedure. Prices can range between $400 and $1,500.

Many tattoo artists that specialize in lip blush tattoos will require a deposit in order to book an appointment.

Kondratyev says that her pricing is $400 for the first session, $200 for a second session, and $300 for a refresh appointment that can happen anywhere between 6 and 18 months after the initial procedure.

If it is your first time getting a lip blush tattoo, you may need two sessions to achieve the look you want. Kondratyev recommends that all new lip blush clients come in for two sessions.

The first session establishes the blush on the lips, and the second session touches up anything that may have healed unevenly, she says. Minor tweaks can be tended to on the second session as well as just adding final saturation.

Even though lip blush tattoos can last a few years, the color can start to fade. Sun exposure, smoking, and using exfoliating products on your lips can cause fading to happen faster. To keep the color and lines fresh, Kondratyev suggests yearly refresh appointments to add to the overall look and longevity.
