The Basics Of Temporary Tattoos

A temporary tattoo is any kind of decorative image that can be transferred onto skin for a short period of time. The most common kind of temporary tattoo involves an image printed onto backing paper and covered with a transfer film. When moisture is applied, the image slides off and attaches itself to the skin. This kind of tattoo is usually referred to as a stick-on tattoo and is very easy to apply.

Other styles of temporary tattoos involve an artist hand-painting the skin. This is done using water-insoluble dyes so the image stays put through several washes. A skilled artist is required to paint the picture onto the skin, and this type of tattoo may be an all-around more complicated, expensive, and time-consuming process.

Some companies offer semi-permanent temporary tattoos. They claim that these tattoos can last between 4 and 6 weeks with proper care. While they may last longer than a regular stick-on tattoo, they probably will not last as long as the company states. They can also sometimes be a bit trickier to remove. Always do your research when purchasing temporary tattoos marketed as semi-permanent or long-lasting so you know what to expect.

Packing tape is my secret weapon for removing temporary tattoos. I didnt figure this out myself. Other people showed me. I forget who though maybe Meredith Atwoodcould have been anybody though.

Simply lay the tape over the temporary tattoo. It will stick to the tattoo and when you pull up the tape a lot of the tattoo will come off.

This is not a great method if you have a lot of body hair in that area because the tape will stick to the hair. That would hurt a bit.

I also might not do this if you have a sunburn from the race because I dont think that would feel good.

I did not know about this method when my kids were little so I never tried it on my kids. As an adult I dont think this method hurts at all but Im not sure how a young kid would feel about it.

Thats it. Every time I share this with friends they think Im a bit nutty. They think it certainly must hurt a lot. For me this method is less painful than scrubbing.

Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.
