In 2017 I began the process of getting two tattoos removed with Picosure laser tattoo removal technology.
Mom was right. Of course I knew she was all along. I got my first tattoos when I was 18. Well, the first one was just shy of my 18th birthday, so I felt all sorts of cool and rebellious for being a tattooed 17-year-old. That one was a floral design on the top of my foot, which was actually a quite beautiful and well-done tattoo. I started to dislike it when I realized it just looked like a big tacky blob on my foot, especially when I was dressed up.
The second was a bow on my wrist. While the bow bears a lot of meaning to me, I got it done at a terrible tattoo parlor and even getting it fixed by a better artist didnt help much. I pretty much never liked this tattoo and always kept it as covered up as possible.
Over the years Ive gotten 3 more tattoos, all of which are small and pretty hidden.

Q: How Many Treatments Will I Need
A: That depends on what we are treating. Tattoos usually take a few treatment sessions to achieve full results, while other concerns may be successfully addressed in a single treatment session. When you meet with your doctor at your initial consultation, you will receive a treatment plan so you know what to expect moving forward.
What Can You Expect After Picosure Tattoo Removal
After tattoo removal, the treated skin will be tender for a few days. Wait at least 24 hours before showering or soaking your treated skin. Avoid swimming pools and hot tubs until your skin is totally healed.
After three to five days of ointment and dressings, patients are free to leave the treated area open to the air but absolutely must apply sunscreen to the area or risk damage and scarring, advises Dr. Paul. The skin is still trying to heal at this point and is very sensitive.
You may also see blisters and scabs developing on the treated area. Make sure not to pick at the irritated skin and keep it clean it will dry up and flake off within two weeks of treatment.
With each tattoo removal session, the color gets lighter and theres less scabbing. Keep the area clean and dry and apply a nonstick pad until its healed. Dr. Tanghetti recommends using a gentle cleanser up to three times a day, followed by Vaseline or Aquaphor, and applying the nonstick dressing if the wound looks weepy. Optimal results occur after six sessions, performed once every six weeks.

- Itching is very common due to dehydrating effect of the laser treatment. Use Aquaphor to treat the area and do not scratch. It may help to lightly wrap the area or apply a cold compress.
- Physical exercise that causes perspiration should be discontinued for at least 2-7 days after treatment as excessive perspiration may disrupt healing process.
- A cool compress may be applied as necessary to help reduce discomfort and inflammation.
