Could I Get A Tattoo If Im On Blood Thinners

Can You Get A Tattoo While Taking Warfarin Or Blood Thinners

I bruise easily and keep my colorful hues for weeks. Scratches arent a problem, but cuts or a bloody nose take a long time to control.

Ive asked my doctor and didnt get a definitive answer. Its hard to believe that Im the first of his patients to want a tattoo while on medication, but looking around the waiting room at the others, I suppose its possible.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Could you? Probably .Should you? Probably not, but I really dont know. You need to push your doctor for an answer. He knows your condition and medications better than anyone else. If he doesnt know the answer, he needs to research it and give you a definitive answer. If he is too busy or too lazy to advise you, well, you need a new doctor. Good luckwtf

Not all tattoos bleed, it depends on where you get it, how big it is, and, frankly, how hard the tattoo artist pushes . If your doctor doesnt answer you , ask an experienced tattoo artist. They see just about everything.

The only way you might safely get a tattoo is if the doctor who prescribed the blood thinner tells you to go OFF the medication for a specified time.

Can the local tatoo parlor make the same claim?

Personally, I would NOT get it done. I wonder if the tattoo parlor would even do it?!

Why Tattoos Are Permanent

Tattoos appear under a microscope as tiny granules of colour . These granules are located in a skin cell known as a macrophage. Macrophages normally remove foreign objects from the body. The pigment in the tattoo freezes the macrophage cell so that it cant do its job. As a result, the pigment remains in the skin and the tattoo becomes permanent.

If you’re not disclosing your medical conditions to your tattoo artist prior to your session, what your tattoo artist doesn’t know could seriously harm you. And, unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the artist’s fault. If you have a medical condition or on any kind of prescription medication, it is crucial that you disclose it to your artist before any tattoo or piercing procedure.

Now, you’re probably thinking it might not matterplus, it’s your personal information, why do they need to know? While we understand if you’re not 100% comfortable disclosing medical information to your tattoo artist, you should know why it matters in the first place.

What Happens If Tattoo Ink Gets In Your Veins

Your body cant break these particles down, so they become stuck. A side effect of this is that the lymph nodes can change color to match the color of your tattoo. Evidence is also showing that the tattoo ink particles can travel through your blood and end up in your liver, where they also become stuck.

Your tattooed skin is irritated, and once it starts healing it will start scabbing and flaking off. This is normal, but its important the area doesnt get too dry during this time. I purchased tattoo balm from the studio I went to and used a small amount every day after washing my tattoo. Oh, and no matter how badly your new tattoo itches, dont scratch itif you accidentally pull off a scab, you can take some of the ink with it.

What Otc Drugs Are Considered Blood Thinners

OTC blood thinners reduce your bodys ability to form clots and stop blood cells from gathering together. Two of the main OTC blood thinners that act as pain relievers are aspirin and Tylenol. People commonly tend to take these medications when they experience unnecessary pain or want to reduce the pain before going for a painful procedure, like getting a tattoo. The most common reason for taking these OTCs are headaches and body aches.

These medications prevent blood from clotting and help prevent certain sudden illnesses from emerging. However, theyre not adequate to stop bleeding, especially during a tattoo process. Many other OTC medications are major blood thinners mentioned below:

  • Midol
  • Aleve
  • Warfarin

If you take any of these medications we mentioned above or any other OTC, you must consult a medical professional before going for your tattoo appointment or discontinuing them for some time.

What Is Universal Precautions

Universal Precautions is a set of precautionary steps defined by the Center for Disease Control used to prevent the spread of disease. This practice includes employing preventative measures like wearing gloves and other protective gear and extends to avoiding contact with the client’s body fluids.

If the medical condition is only a risk to you and not to the artistsuch as a heart conditionyou’re just hurting yourself by not disclosing it. If the artist decides that they cannot, in good conscience, proceed with the tattoo or piercing, it’s because they don’t want you to get hurt. Remember, people don’t turn down a paying client for no reason.

Also, although an artist has the right to refuse service to a potential client based on health reasons, you also have the right to take your business elsewhere if you feel the artist was in error or being unfair. Keep in mind, however, that there will always be someone out there willing to take your money regardless of your health. Don’t go to someone you know uses unsafe practices because nobody safe will give you one. Ask yourself this: Is a tattoo or piercing really worth dying for? Probably not.

Do Tattoos Draw Blood

The simple answer is yes, ink does enter the blood stream and has nothing to do with a tattoo artist not knowing what they are doing. In most cases, macrophages carry the ink particles to the lymph nodes closest to the site of the tattoo. Because the cells cannot break down the particles, they become lodged there.

More Expensive Tattooing Sessions

Bleeding more throughout a tattooing session means that it can take an artist much longer to complete a tattoo.

Not only will the artist need to constantly wipe away excess blood that is pooling on the surface of your skin, but they will need to take much longer to prepare the inks and ensuring that they arent constantly getting diluted due to the higher concentrations of blood and plasma that will be seeping around the area and getting dropped back into the ink pots.

All of this stopping-and-starting is going to make the session last longer. Not only this but the longer your tattooing session takes, the more expensive its likely going to be . The longer your sitting, the more painful it is for you, also.

How Long Does It Take For Blood Thinners To Get Out Of Your System

Can one donate blood after getting a tattoo? – Dr. Sanjay Phutane

There is no specific time for blood thinners to get out of your system, as this depends on the type of OTC youre consuming, along with other health factors youre dealing with. Usually, blood thinners leave the body within 2-4 days after you stop taking them, but this varies from person to person. If youre taking OTCs such as Warfarin, the blood thinner wears off within 4 days, depending on its therapeutic range.

A few factors can affect how long blood thinners stay in your system. These include other medications you take, liver functions, and your diet. Sometimes, you can reverse the effects of blood thinners, but only in urgent cases. The reversal takes place with the help of certain medications and injections. You may not go through this for a tattoo as it only takes place when there is heavy bleeding during a surgical procedure.
