What Is Recovery Like
After your procedure, a special ointment will be applied to the area to protect it and prevent infection during healing. You’ll also be given detailed instructions on how to care for your skin, including when and how to wash the area and how to protect it from infection. Your skin will be slightly sore and red, similar to the way your skin feels and looks after a sunburn. The area may also form a scab, which should be left in place to aid in healing.

How does laser tattoo removal work?Laser tattoo removal is accomplished by using specialized laser technology to deliver pulses of intense light that penetrate the top layers of your skin and target the ink particles.
The light then breaks the ink into miniature, dust-like particles that are absorbed by your body. Theres a great metaphor that illustrates the procedure very well: If you can imagine the ink under your skin to be the size of boulders, the laser machine breaks those boulders into pebbles which are small enough to be absorbed by the body and eliminated by your bodys natural lymphatic system.
Multiple treatment sessions are required to effectively break down all the ink particles, the number of which depends on many individual factors, including the depth and/or type of the ink. The sensation of the laser is well-tolerated, but if necessary or requested, we can use different types of anesthesia, such as a topical anesthetic cream. Can I Shower Right After A Laser Tattoo Removal Procedure
You can shower just a couple hours after your treatment but avoid water pressure directly on the tattoo. You wont be able to soak the area until all scabs and blisters have completely healed. That means no baths, no hot tubs, and no swimming pools. This minimizes any risk of infection. You can exercise immediately, as long as you follow your skin care instructions. Youll need to keep the tattoo area completely protected with SPF 25 or higher sunscreen for 3 months.
What Is A Laser Treatment Like
During your initial consultation, your tattoo will be evaluated as far as its size, the colors it uses, its age and other factors to determine the best approach for removal. During the procedure, the tattooed area will be gently cleansed and a topical numbing agent will applied to decrease discomfort. How Can Lasers Remove Tattoos
Lasers use highly-focused energy to break up the pigments used in tattoos, enabling it to be removed by the body’s natural waste system. Dark colors are the easiest to remove since they absorb the most energy, but other colors can also be removed using lasers.
How Do I Care For My Skin After My Tattoo Removal Session
We apply an ice pack immediately after your treatment, followed by antibiotic cream and a bandage. Youll probably want to continue icing for a bit when you get home. Most discomfort runs its course quickly after your session.
After your session, your treated area may seem as if it has a superficial burn. At first, the tattoo will turn a frosty white color. This is caused by the release of carbon dioxide as the laser penetrates the skin. As mentioned above, youll probably want to ice the tattoo and take some Tylenol to sooth any discomfort. Dont take aspirin, as it can cause bleeding. Within eight hours and continuing for the next three days the treated tattooed skin will begin to peel or blister. This usually isnt dramatic, but it is important to not pick any scabs that form. This can cause scarring. Youll need to keep the area covered with antibiotic cream and a bandage for the first 3 days. After that, youll keep the area clean and dry. In 1-2 weeks, all crusting and scabbing should fully resolve.
