You Really Can Erase The Past
Or At Least the Evidence.
Just like when you got your tattoo and you had temporary discomfort, we cannot promise that getting the tattoo removed will be completely pain-free. The laser hitting the tattoo ink in pico-seconds causes a snapping and a momentary discomfort. In addition, the area where the tattoo is located and individual sensitivity are also factors that will contribute to the level of discomfort. We do use a topical numbing cream to help with your comfort level.

Tattoo Removal For Dark Skin
The evolution of tattoo removal methods has tried to address issues commonly seen in patients with darker skin tones, such as hypo- or hyperpigmentation and the need for repeated or combined treatments. In a study published by the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, researchers found that darker skin holds color pigments that closely resemble common tattoo ink, indicating that darker-skinned individuals require more treatment sessions at reduced power levels for safe tattoo removal.
The development of advanced laser technologiessuch as pico laseroffer the ability to remove unwanted tattoos with less skin damage, scarring, and skin lightening. Still, it is important to remember that not all laser treatments are built the same. Pico laser utilizes the most advanced technology to remove ink particles while inducing your bodys natural ability to regenerate its own skin cells, giving you a seamless tattoo removal experience.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work
Laser tattoo removal works in a very different fashion to other methods of tat removal like surgical excision and sanding the tattoo away. This technology works with your bodys processes to eliminate the ink in the tattoo safely and naturally over time. The results are more thorough than other removal methods, and the residual effects of the removal process can be minimized for a more comfortable, positive experience overall.
Laser tattoo removal uses concentrated beams of light energy to target the pigment in the tattoo ink. Ink shades will respond to different light wavelengths, which is why some devices offer multiple wavelength options to ensure full elimination of as much of the tattoo as possible. When the laser beam connects with the pigment particles, it shatters them so that they can be removed from the body by the immune system in the days and weeks following treatment. The process is performed in a series of sessions, with each session producing gradual improvement until the tattoo becomes nearly undetectable and easy to hide with makeup when necessary.

How Long Will My Results Last
Results will vary from person to person. Sun avoidance and sunscreen is always recommended. The brown spots that became lighter or went away due to the treatment can become darker and come back with time if there is sun exposure. Due to living in California yearly treatments are recommended if that does occur.
How Is Laser Tattoo Removal Performed
Before we perform your laser tattoo removal treatment at Dermacare Laser and Skin Care Clinics, we will administer a topical numbing cream to the treatment area to minimize your discomfort during the procedure. A handheld applicator is placed on the skin, which delivers the high-powered laser pulses directly into the ink. Some patients liken the experience to a rubber band snapping against the skins surface as the laser energy is applied.
Treatment sessions may only last about 15 minutes, depending on the size of the tat you want to have removed. After the procedure, you will be able to return to your daily routine right away. The treatment area may look slightly frosted immediately following the application of the laser energy. However, the site will require about a week to heal, as redness and tenderness are common and crusting typically appears within a few days after treatment. Once side effects of the procedure subside, you should notice that your tattoo appears less noticeable with each session.

How Painful Is Tattoo Removal
Pain thresholds vary widely among patients, and many patients report the laser experience to be about as painful as having the tattoo ink placed itself.* Prime Med Spa uses a dermal cooler, quartz plate, lidocaine injections, relaxation techniques, and prescription-strength topical numbing to help offset any discomfort you may experience during your tattoo removal session.*

After your procedure, a special ointment will be applied to the area to protect it and prevent infection during healing. You’ll also be given detailed instructions on how to care for your skin, including when and how to wash the area and how to protect it from infection. Your skin will be slightly sore and red, similar to the way your skin feels and looks after a sunburn. The area may also form a scab, which should be left in place to aid in healing.

The staff was very helpful in answering all my questions and addressing all my concerns. After my treatment, the staff called me to see how I was doing. I highly recommend this office to anyone. Best of all, I am very content with my results.

How Are Tattoos Removed
Because tattoo ink is inserted beneath the top layer of your skin, tattoos are essentially permanent. Until the early 1990s, if you wanted to remove your tattoo, you had to endure painful treatments that often left behind noticeable scars.
Fortunately, safer and more effective tattoo removal is available today. Dr. Hamidi recommends laser tattoo removal for most men and women with unwanted tattoos.
Tattoo-removal lasers heat ink particles under your skin until they break apart. Your white blood cells absorb shattered ink particles and transport them to your liver, which then removes them from your body.
Todays innovative lasers treat ink colors that used to be very difficult to remove. Laser tattoo removal requires fewer treatments and offers impressive results compared to other methods, like dermabrasion or surgery.
Is Pico Laser Effective For Tattoo Removal
Yes! Pico laser is effective and safe for tattoo removal. In fact, pico laser therapy is the most advanced laser technology for tattoo removal to date. A literature review published in Dermatology Surgery reports that picosecond laser technology is effective for tattoo removal, treatment of skin disorders, removing acne scarring, and even for correcting photoaging . A comparative study between nanosecond and picosecond laser technology published in Archives of Dermatology Research reports that lasers with picosecond delivery are much more efficient than nanolasers, highlighting that pico laser technology is the most advanced laser method to this date.
One of the main concerns for individuals looking for tattoo removal is whether or not their treatment will successfully target multicolored tattoos. Because, pico laser is safe and efficient for black and colored inks, such as red, orange, yellow, green, and blue pigments. A study published in PLOS One showed that by adjusting picosecond wavelengths, each colored tattoo can be optimally targeted.

What Does Laser Tattoo Removal Involve
During your tattoo removal consultation, Dr. Hamidi reviews your medical history, including any medications you take. She then assesses your tattoo to determine the best removal treatment plan. She considers:
- How long youve had the tattoo
- How vivid the colors are
- Where the tattoo is on your body
- Pre-existing scarring
During the procedure, Dr. Hamidi numbs the treatment area with ice, topical creams, or a powerful chilling machine. Next, she applies the laser to the skin which heats and breaks up tattoo ink.
Most men and women describe the sensation as similar to getting a tattoo, but any discomfort usually last just a few seconds. You may have mild blistering, redness, or swelling.

How does laser tattoo removal work?Laser tattoo removal is accomplished by using specialized laser technology to deliver pulses of intense light that penetrate the top layers of your skin and target the ink particles.
The light then breaks the ink into miniature, dust-like particles that are absorbed by your body. Theres a great metaphor that illustrates the procedure very well: If you can imagine the ink under your skin to be the size of boulders, the laser machine breaks those boulders into pebbles which are small enough to be absorbed by the body and eliminated by your bodys natural lymphatic system.
Multiple treatment sessions are required to effectively break down all the ink particles, the number of which depends on many individual factors, including the depth and/or type of the ink. The sensation of the laser is well-tolerated, but if necessary or requested, we can use different types of anesthesia, such as a topical anesthetic cream. Laser tattoo removal is both safe and effective. We are here to help you get rid of that unwanted tattoo!
Just watch how easy laser tattoo removal can be. The following video is our first session with a patient. The dramatic reduction in pigment occurs in the days afterward as the blasted ink particles are slowly absorbed by the body, but the process itself is easy!

Can I Shower Right After A Laser Tattoo Removal Procedure
You can shower just a couple hours after your treatment but avoid water pressure directly on the tattoo. You wont be able to soak the area until all scabs and blisters have completely healed. That means no baths, no hot tubs, and no swimming pools. This minimizes any risk of infection. You can exercise immediately, as long as you follow your skin care instructions. Youll need to keep the tattoo area completely protected with SPF 25 or higher sunscreen for 3 months.
What Is A Laser Treatment Like
During your initial consultation, your tattoo will be evaluated as far as its size, the colors it uses, its age and other factors to determine the best approach for removal. During the procedure, the tattooed area will be gently cleansed and a topical numbing agent will applied to decrease discomfort. The laser energy is emitted from a special handheld device that’s passed over the surface of the skin. The energy level may need to be adjusted throughout treatment for different types of pigments. The length of each treatment and the number of treatments you’ll need depend on the size of the tattoo.

How Can Lasers Remove Tattoos
Lasers use highly-focused energy to break up the pigments used in tattoos, enabling it to be removed by the body’s natural waste system. Since different colors respond to different types of light energy, a laser with variable wavelength capability is typically used to achieve the best effects. Dark colors are the easiest to remove since they absorb the most energy, but other colors can also be removed using lasers.
How Do I Care For My Skin After My Tattoo Removal Session
We apply an ice pack immediately after your treatment, followed by antibiotic cream and a bandage. Youll probably want to continue icing for a bit when you get home. Most discomfort runs its course quickly after your session.
After your session, your treated area may seem as if it has a superficial burn. At first, the tattoo will turn a frosty white color. This is caused by the release of carbon dioxide as the laser penetrates the skin. As mentioned above, youll probably want to ice the tattoo and take some Tylenol to sooth any discomfort. Dont take aspirin, as it can cause bleeding. Within eight hours and continuing for the next three days the treated tattooed skin will begin to peel or blister. This usually isnt dramatic, but it is important to not pick any scabs that form. This can cause scarring. Youll need to keep the area covered with antibiotic cream and a bandage for the first 3 days. After that, youll keep the area clean and dry. In 1-2 weeks, all crusting and scabbing should fully resolve.
