Can Saniderm Ruin A Tattoo
Saniderm is designed to protect your tattoo while it heals, but there are some instances when Saniderm should not be used. If the area that you want to apply Saniderm to has any open wounds or scrapes then please do not use this product. It will trap bacteria and germs that can lead to infection.
If you have a history of keloid scarring, experts recommend consulting with your doctor before using this type of product on tattoos located around scars because it may cause these types of scars to grow larger than usual.
What If Saniderm Sticks To Your Tattoo
To remove the Saniderm from your tattoo after the healing process, you need to carefully peel it from your skin.
The best place to remove Saniderm would be in a warm shower as this will allow you to easily peel the Saniderm from your tattooed skin, and will loosen the adhesive. You dont want any Saniderm or the adhesive from Saniderm being stuck to your tattoo once removed.
If you do have excess adhesive left on your tattoo, once youve removed the Saniderm, you can apply coconut oil or baby oil to the area to loosen any Saniderm still stuck to your tattoo.
If this doesnt work, try a small amount of 70% isopropyl alcohol applied on a clean paper towel. This needs to be applied very gently to remove any remaining Saniderm from your tattoo.

Treatment After Bandage Removal Once you remove your Saniderm bandage and wont be applying another, gently wash your new tattoo with luke-warm water and antibacterial soap. Can I Put Vaseline On A New Tattoo
The short answer is no. While your tattoo artist may put Vaseline on your tattoo immediately after, you wont want to use petroleum jelly again.
In addition to slowing the healing process, the thick layer of non-breathable gel can trap moisture between the skin and the gel, increasing the risk of bacterial growth and, thus, infection.
Bacteria on the skin can ultimately lead to a tattoo that doesnt heal correctly, resulting in a damaged tattoo. For instance, Vaseline on a tattoo can draw the ink from the lower layers of the skin before it has set. This can lead the tattoo to look faded, patchy, or distorted. It may even lead to an increased risk of scarring.
Whats more, because petroleum-based products can break down protective equipment in a mere 20 minutes, any bacteria on the tattoo artists hands may get through the gloves and onto your newly tattooed skin. Remember, a new tattoo is a fresh, open wound.
Fortunately, most tattoo artists change gloves often throughout the tattooing and wrapping process, helping minimize this risk. But it does still exist.

What If Water Gets Under Saniderm
Saniderm is designed to stay on the skin underwater for up to 3 days. In fact, it will not come off with regular showering or bathing. However, if you accidentally get soap suds underneath Saniderm thats another story. You need to soak in a warm bath and remove your tattoo bandage gently before drying it completely and applying a new one.

Tattoo Aftercare Routine: Caring For Your New Tattoo After Removing Saniderm
Once the final Saniderm bandage is removed from your tattoo, continue to care for it by gently washing it with unscented antibacterial soap and pat or air dry. After, apply a layer of aftercare moisturizer 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks or until the tattoo is not peeling, dry, or cracked.
Keep in mind that the tattoo may appear to be fully healed on the surface once your second Saniderm bandage comes off. However, deeper layers of skin will still be repairing for 2-4 months. 1. Bad art from a bad artist
It’s possible to ruin your new tattoo by choosing an unskilled artist. When speaking about skills, I’m not referring to their artistic skills. This would be about the artists’ tattooing procedure and application skills. Everyone’s skin is different skin. Healthy, unhealthy, plump, loose, tight, oily, or dry. Our skin’s surface, thickness, and tightness are also different throughout our bodies. These differences can have a detrimental impact on how the ink lays into your skin.

2. Keeping your fresh tattoo covered too long
Fresh tattoos are open wounds, and after the tattoo session, the artist will cover your new tattoo. Every artist has a different preference for what they use. Some still use the old school plastic Saran Wrap crap made for sandwiches. Try to avoid using this food cellophane wrap on new ink.
Fresh tattoos should be wrapped with a sterile bandage. The best options are medical-grade adhesive bandages and protective tattoo films like Saniderm or Dermalize.

Is It Okay To Have Air Bubbles In Saniderm
You notice an air bubble under your freshly applied Saniderm bandage now what should you do? While an air bubble under Saniderm is not necessarily bad, it will likely cause problems with adhesion further on down the line. If you find yourself in this predicament, we recommend these two options: A: Simply make a small cut, let the air bubble out, and apply an additional small piece of Saniderm over the newly exposed area.
- This is the option we generally recommend, just because its fast and easy
- Be cautious when making the incision, however, as you dont want to harm the tattoo below
- Dont apply too much pressure and try to make the smallest slit possiblejust enough to release the air trapped inside
B: Or, perhaps you dont have any more Saniderm on hand. If this is the case, gently attempt to push the air bubble out by hand. Take caution during this process go slowly and be attentive. It is important that you keep your tattoo completely sealed. If you poke a hole in the air bubble, it is vital that you apply an additional piece of Saniderm over the top.
Leaving this hole exposed puts you at risk of infection as bacteria can enter the film through the open hole. In addition to bacteria, showering with an exposed hole in your Saniderm will allow water to collect inside the film and loosen the adhesive.
Can Saniderm rip out ink?

First, place the body part adhesive with the saniderm in front of a running tap. This will allow the bandage to loosen up and start peeling off naturally. Once you see corners of the tattoo saniderm detaching from tattooed skin, use it to remove the whole bandage.
Avoid removing the tattoo bandage against the direction of hair growth, as it will cause pain and difficulty. Instead, artists prefer removing the saniderm following the natural direction of body hair growth. This will also help you remove the tattoo bandage more easily.

AFTERCARE Saniderm
- Keep the Saniderm on for a minimum of 24 hours, and a maximum of 4-5 days. The longer you are able to keep it on, the more your tattoo will be able to heal while bandaged. During this time there will be a buildup of fluid underneath the bandagethis is normal, and should stay contained within the Saniderm.
- To remove the Sanidermwhile in the shower, slowly peel/roll the Saniderm off. This will be uncomfortable but will not damage your tattoo. Once the Saniderm is completely removed, thoroughly wash your tattoo and continue with aftercare as instructed below.
Regular Absorbent Bandage
- Keep your tattoo bandaged for a minimum of 4 hours, maximum of 12 .
Once youve removed the bandage.
- Whichever bandage youve had, once it comes off you need to immediately wash your tattoo very thoroughly with warm water and unscented liquid soap. Diluted Dr. Bronners Unscented Baby-Mild is recommended.
- Pat your tattoo dry and leave it alone! Keep it clean, dry, and out of the sun throughout the healing period . Wash/rinse it once a day in the shower, but no more than that as over washing can slow down the healing process.
