Eat Before Your Appointment
Heading into a long tattoo appointment on an empty stomach is a recipe for disaster. To avoid feeling faint get some food in your belly and stay hydrated. On a side note, make sure you use the bathroom and take any other breaks you need before heading into your appointment. Time is money for your artist, and unless youre in for a long session, you want to get everything out of the way before you get into the chair.
Proudly Serving Clients From The Hudson Valley And Beyond Since 2003
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic each independent artist at Graceland Tattoo shared the same philosophy – to run a safe and sanitary studio. As we navigate our “new normal” we will continue to uphold this philosophy. We have in place numerous measurements to ensure that we are providing a safe and clean studio. For example, each workstation is constructed of stainless steel, which contributes to the clean and safe working environment. All of our clients receive single-service use on all products . Additionally, any non-disposable instruments are autoclave sterilized prior to each use. Furthermore, we are implementing a facemask policy. Artists, support staff, & clients must wear facemasks while in our tattoo parlor. . We also request you come alone to be tattooed, pierced or when making a future appointment. If you are bringing a minor to be pierced, we are limiting it to one parent. Thank you to everyone who understands. These are trying times we are doing our best to do our part. We value you all and are grateful to have you in our community. Graceland Loves You,
Tipping Is A Standard Part Of The Industry
When youre saving up for your first tattoo make sure you include enough for a tip its the norm within the industry. Not tipping is ignoring the extra work that went into creating your design, the customer service, the non-mandatory stuff like comfort during your pain and all the creative collaboration.

How To Book Your First Tattoo Appointment
- Written By Dan Hunter on August 17, 2019Last Updated: November 27, 2020
Booking a tattoo appointment, in theory, seems easy. But in fact, the process can be very intricate.
If youre not careful, and especially if you havent been through the process before, wrongdoings at the time of the booking can go on to cause catastrophic consequences for you and your tattoo by the end of the process.
You can book a tattoo appointment by:
- Going through the website booking point
- Emailing an artist directly
- Walking in
Tattoo Sessions April 2022
$250 hourly rate
$100-$400 non-refundable booking fee that goes towards your tattoo.
Book your appt! See bottom of page for commonly asked booking questions such as “How long should I book for?”
Don’t see the answer to your question? For booking questions please email my new booking manager at
Commonly Asked Questions:
How much is it? Tim’s hourly rate is $250 per hour as of June 26th 2020, and an $100 Booking Fee if booked online or $100 deposit if booked in the shop is required when you book your appt. The deposit will go towards your tattoo price, so you already have paid a little bit before you come! If your appt goes over the time you booked for an extra hr..then you owe an extra $250.
Why Booking Fee? It holds your guaranteed spot to get tattooed that day. Tim rarely takes walk-ins and is always busy tattooing. The chances of walking in that day and getting a tattoo are rare, and you are very lucky if Tim can squeeze you in!
If I cancel, reschedule, or no show for an appointment will I lose my booking fee? Sorry, but yes. Booking Fee will be lost if you reschedule, cancel, or do not show to your appointment. For any reason if you cancel, reschedule, or cannot make it to your appointment, you will forfeit your booking fee and will be required to submit a new booking fee if you wish to book a new appt or move your appt to a new date. No exceptions or extenuating circumstances.
Still have questions? Email and Tim’s booking manager will get back to you asap!

Tattoos Are Going To Hurt
Theres going to be blood, needles and yes, pain. If you have a low threshold for the pain, speak with an experienced artist about what the best choice will be for you before you sit down. Look, the pain is part of the process, and tattoo artists prepare for you to gasp or groan every once in a while. If youre getting a large piece done, it might even warrant a break midway through if youve reached your breaking point. However, screaming, crying and physically wincing now youre moving into a territory thats going to affect your finished tattoo.
Before you sit in the chair, you need to evaluate your tolerance for pain and decide if you can sit still throughout the entire process. If the answer is no, a tattoo may not be for you.
Tattoo Artists Fees Will Vary
Depending on the shop you hit up fee structures may vary. Some artists charge by the piece, while others charge by the hour the odd few make it up as they go . Within those fee structures, tattoo artists rates will differ depending on experience, education, and location.

Schedule In Picking Up Supplies
Youll need some specific things for aftercare that you may not already have, so make sure to schedule in picking up supplies. You can always do this after you get your tattoo, but its totally up to you! Having some non-fragrance, hypoallergenic soap on hand, preferably in a squirt bottle since bars of soap can carry bacteria, will be great for keeping your new baby clean. No need for towels though! Youre better off air drying your piece rather than rubbing it dry. It is, after all, basically an open wound. Easy does it!
As for lotions or salves, everyone has their own personal secret weapon to fight against the dry itchiness of a new tattoo and to help promote successful healing. Ive been using Dexeryl for years. Jes loves unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil. Joe prefers Saniderm. Some people swear by A& D. There are a few shops out there that may send you home with a card or a little care package that includes products they stand behind. With your first tattoo, its usually best to stick with what your artist suggests, and as you continue to get more tattoos youll find your own personal favorite.
Eliminate Your Appointment Scheduling Stress
Your loyal clients come to you for your artistic talent, not your ability to manage a schedule. Whether youre a busy shop manager or an artist who books their own clients, managing appointments can be a serious time-vampire. Fortunately, keeping things organized has never been easier with Bookedins premium tattoo studio software. Our software offers a streamlined solution that will help you manage the constant stress of incoming appointment requests and give your clients a five-star experience. Whether your books are closed or youre open for new projects, Bookedin can help give you your time back.
Allow Your Tattoo Artist To Concentrate On Their Work
Nows the time to read the room. Not all tattoo artists enjoy chatting while theyre applying permanent ink to your skin. Its essential to quickly identify if your artist is a talker or if they require quiet concentration while working. Take note and be prepared to entertain yourself during your appointments.
What Is The Creative Process Of Designing A Tattoo
The creative process of designing a tattoo starts with choosing the placement of the tattoo. This has an impact on what type of design will fit the location. Then pick a tattoo design. Do you want a meaningful tattoo or an image that you simply like? The final step is choosing a tattoo designer to create the idea for you.

Find An Artist Or Studio
Finding an artist or studio should be a lot of fun! Best thing you can do is use the Tattoodo App Booking Feature if you want all of the pressure taken off. There are two options: you can either do an Open Booking or a Direct Booking. These awesome aspects of our app actually make it easy for you to send book a tattoo by sending a request out, with all the details you desire. You can even upload images for the artist to reference! If you do an Open Booking, your request is sent to all the tattooists on our platform who are within your area. You can then go through tattooist portfolios to find someone who is the perfect fit. If you prefer someone or somewhere that youve found through our Artist or Studio search, then you can send them a Direct Booking. Youll see the big red Book Now button.
Have A Design In Mind
Feeling unsure about what tattoo to get? Dont get one. Tattoos are permanent artwork on your body. Nows not the time to ask for opinions from your friends, or partner, or your tattoo artist. A tattoo design doesnt need to symbolize a life-changing event, but it should resonate with you and your artist cant determine that for you, nor should you ask them to.

What Is The Benefit Of Having A Custom Tattoo Design Before My Tattoo Appointment
Arriving at a tattoo parlor with your custom tattoo design will save you time and ensure that you’re getting the exact design you want. Often, if you want a custom design at your appointment, you will wait hours for the in-store artist to design the tattoo before applying. And there’s no guarantee that you will like the final product.
Rome Wasnt Built In A Day
OK, were back to reality TV again. Contrary to what you see on television a sleeve or backpiece isnt completed in an hour, or two or even 6. Large pieces like the back, a sleeve or even half-sleeves require more work than you realize.
Your first step will be a consultation where youll discuss your idea with your artist theyll trace the area you want tattooed and create a drawing for you. Youll likely come back at a later date for your first appointment . Your custom piece, well thats going to require multiple sessions with a 2-3 week break in between to heal.

Ignoring Your Aftercare Will Affect The Results Of Your Tattoo
Youre super excited about your new tattoo but when its finished is the most critical time to listen up. Want a distorted, faded, infected tattoo? I didnt think so. Artists dont go over their step-by-step aftercare procedures for new tattoos just for fun. You just sat through hours of pain for beauty now its time to take care of your new piece for a lifetime of enjoyment.
Check Out The Website
Everyone has a website these days, so the first place you should check for booking information is the shops website. There you should be able to find a way to either contact the shop or possibly a guide on how to book appointments. For us at Emerald Tattoo & Piercing, the best way to schedule an appointment is to give us a call or send us a message via our website or social media platforms.

Bigger May Be Better In The Long Run
Gravity plus time is a real bummer, and when it comes to tattoos, its the worst. Thats why you might be surprised when you get to your appointment, and the tattoo you imagined is not quite the size you had envisioned. Nows the time to speak up but be mindful that your artist is the expert and understands how your skin will change, what designs fit where and how colors move/fade.
Why Did My Appointment Request Get Rejected
We are fortunate to receive more requests for tattoo work than we can accommodate at any given time, so please dont take it personally. If your design does not fit within the artist’s specialties, or they simply can’t take on any new work at the moment, they will decline. We have to turn away some work because we will not compromise quality or time spent with clients to take on a higher volume. We want you to end up with an artist that has the time, interest and ability to give you the attention your tattoo deserves, and who will do an amazing job at it, even if they don’t work in our shop.

Stay Away From Trends
Trends happen in every industry the significant difference is that your tattoo lasts forever. When a new style pops up there tends to be a rush to be part of it. Clients can overlook the importance of finding a clean, reputable shop in favor of getting the work done quickly. Though we each have our style preference, some fads are just better off on the pages of the latest magazine instead of our skin.
Think About The Timing Of Your Day
Think about the timing for your day. If your session is midday, eat a hearty breakfast. If your session is after work ends for you, make sure you bring snacks and water to be ready. Sometimes life gets you, and you find yourself on your way to a tattoo appointment without doing some of the above things or you may just be scared to get a tattoo thats ok, just think of yourself as a tattoo explorer, and get what you need to be prepared! A friend and a tattoo-go-bag will do you right.

When you are entering pictures- You can only do one at a time- so before and after a should probably be set up in a different app and saved. There doesnt seem to be an auto correct or a cut and paste feature- Big downvote- As Id like to make posting quicker- they charge you right away without being able to choose options- so thats alittle scarey- But they did respond to emails.
