Keep Your Tattoo Clean

13 types of tattoos I DONâT LIKE!
  • Youll need to ensure that your tattoo is kept as clean as possible. Theres no way around it, a fresh tattoo is an open wound and you need to bear that in mind when looking after it. Whilst we take responsibility for the piece of art, tattoo aftercare is 100% your responsibility and cleanliness matters. We recommend short showers until your skin has fully healed.

Why Do Tattoo Artists Use Vaseline

Tattoo artists use vaseline to keep the tattoo ink from drying out and cracking when working on it. It also helps with healing because you can use it as a moisturizer for the skin just inked.

You can rub vaseline on the skin before inserting the needle to help protect it during the tattooing process.

Also, vaseline can get used after the tattoo has healed because it is a moisturizer that will help promote healing and prevent dry, cracked skin.

It is essential never to use petroleum-based products on your tattoos to clog pores and cause infections.

Tattoo artists also occasionally put vaseline around their mouths:

-If they are laying down tattoos below their chins or lips to prevent falling or leaking of ink on clothes or furniture.

There are some cases where people have gotten tattoos done with vaseline instead of regular lotion for this reason as well, but its not very common.

Some artists also use vaseline on a persons skin to make a tattoo easier for them to get done.

They apply the vaseline to the area they will do first before doing any of the others.

So its easier for them because they could slip and cause damage if there was no Vaseline. Vaseline boasts usage since tattoo artists began working with tattoos.

This is because it was easy to find, cheap, and well known as something that would help keep the ink from drying out or cracking after application into the skin.

How Often Should You Moisturize New Tattoo

How Often Should You Moisturize Your Tattoo? Professional tattoo artists always recommended one moisturizes their tattoo once or twice a day. The best way to moisturize a tattoo is by doing it in the morning and in the evening. It is also important to apply lotion or ointment after taking a shower, to protect the tattoo from drying out.

  • Note : Make sure to wait between 10 and 20 minutes to apply lotion/ointment onto the tattoo after a shower

Should I Apply Lotion On My Older/healed Tattoo

Certainly! Many people believe that once a tattoo has finished healing, it no longer needs to be maintained and moisturized. This, however, is a wrong assumption.

Using harsh chemicals on a healing tattoo could cause it to fade faster than usual. This includes scented soap. Also, overwashing your tattoo or soaking it in soapy bath water while the tattoo is healing could cause the ink to fade. What Can I Use To Wipe Off Tattoo Ink

Here are some popular methods you can use to wipe off tattoo ink

    1) Soaking in saltwater: The salt absorbs the dye and ink in your tattoo, helping it to fade.

This is a prevalent method for oxidizing the insides of tattoos, but it wont always work in darker colors.

The effective way to do this is to add salt to lukewarm water and soak it in the mixture for half an hour.

If you want faster results, try soaking it for one full hour instead.

    2) Rubbing alcohol: Rubbing Alcohol can boast usefulness and works especially well when paired with other chemicals such as saline or hydrogen peroxide.

Its still possible for large areas of your skin to become burned even if you dilute it .

But the alcohol should only come into contact with the tattooed skin, not your entire body. It can also help to fade out smaller tattoos that are less than six months old.

    3) Glycerin: If you want to use an all-natural method of fading your tattoos , try using glycerin.

It helps in breaking down fat cells in the skin and helping the tattoo fade faster than usual.

Since this is a messy process, ensure that youre not ruining any clothes or bedding before trying it out.

    4) Baby wipes: Over time, dirt, oil, and other abrasive particles can collect on your tattoo while it heals.

This causes scabbing and other unsightly after-effects. You can use baby wipes to decimate this type of buildup and keep your tattoo looking fresh longer.

If you want faster results, then try adding some salt into the mix.

    Peeling In The Healing Process

If you are new to having tattoos, you will undoubtedly freak out a little when you see chunks of your new ink flake and peel off your skin. But theres no need to worry peeling is expected and a sign that your tattoo is healing properly.

However, dont fret if your skin doesnt peel. Everyones skin heals in its unique way and following its own timeline. Many factors can determine whether your skin will peel or not, such as your skin type, the depth of needle penetration, or the type of line work.

    Soap Ingredients To Avoid

Soaps that have alcohol as one of the primary ingredients tend to be harsh and dry out the skin. Therefore, they should be avoided when washing a new tattoo. That means you definitely dont want to use hand sanitizer on any tattoos as hand sanitizer is usually made of 60% or more alcohol.

You may want to avoid soaps with sulfates as well. Sulfates can also dry out your skin and cause irritation especially if you have sensitive skin. You want to keep your skin clear and happy during the healing phase of your new tattoo.

Never thought to read the ingredients on your soap before? Well, getting a new tattoo is the time to do it! Check the ingredients list thoroughly for alcohol, sulfates, and perfumes. If your soap doesnt have these ingredients, its most likely safe to use on your new tattoo. However, we recommend using one of the soaps on the list above to get the best results.

Care During The Second Half Of The Month

    • Your tattoo may have a waxy or hazy look, or look like its losing color. Dont worry most of the time, this is just the skin going through its normal process, and the tattoo will come back and look great.
    • Remember that while its okay to get in the water once the tattoo is done flaking and is at least 2 weeks old, keep the tattoo out of the sun for a whole month.

While your tattoo is healing, please give us a call or stop by if you have any concerns or questions. And when your tattoo is fully healed in 4 or 5 weeks, ideally it will be beautiful and just as we planned please come show off! But if something didnt take during the healing process, dont hesitate to come back and talk to your artist about a touch-up.

Do You Have To Follow Tattoo Aftercare

If you want your tattoo to remain vivid in color, with crisp detail, and healthy skin, then yes, you must follow tattoo aftercare instructions.

Quite possibly, the worst tattoo aftercare is none at all. You must clean, dry, moisturize, and protect your new tattoo several times every day for a few weeks until it heals.

Even up to a month after your appointment, its still important to follow some basic aftercare steps. It is unlikely that youll get an infection at this point, but you still want to keep the area clean.

Youll also still want to avoid too much direct sun and be careful with the area. It can seem like the tattoo aftercare process takes forever, but youll soon be through it. A tattoo is a lifetime investment, so its worth doing everything possible to follow the recommended tattoo aftercare day by day. HUSHs products especially the CBD foaming soap are a great way to help your tattoo heal well.
