What Lotion Is Best For Tattoos
If you want your new ink to heal nicely, you have to be diligent and take good care of it. A beloved lotion is Aquaphor Healing Ointment, or good old-fashioned Vaseline.
After a new tattoo, your tattoo artist should put a thin layer of petroleum jelly and a bandage on top of the ink. After 24 hours, you can remove the bandage and wash with antimicrobial soap, water, and pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel.
Throughout the day, apply a layer of fragrance-free antibacterial ointment it’s best if you stick to applying it twice a day.
The best lotion to put on a new tattoo is a thick and creamy lotion that’s fragrance-free. Don’t use sunblock when it’s healing, and try and stay out of the sun so it heals faster.

How Often Should You Put Lotion On A New Tattoo

During the weeks after getting a new tattoo, the skin becomes very delicate as it tries to regenerate and heal from the trauma caused by the tattooing needles pumping in and out of the area thousands of times a minute.
Most people know that applying a good lotion to the area can help to speed up the healing process by nourishing and hydrating the skin, but many people are unsure about how to properly apply lotion and which lotion to use.
Generally, you should always aim to make sure your tattooed skin is soft and supple to ensure there are no areas becoming exceedingly dry, which can cause the tattoo to crack, and can also cause irritation and itching.

How Can I Ruin My New Tattoo
The following are the most common causes for the ruination of a new tattoo :
If you under moisturize, the skin cracks and breaks, resulting in skin irritation, scabbing, and peeling. The skin then becomes itchy, tempting you to scratch it or pull off the peeling skin, which could potentially mess up your tattoo. If you peel the skin and dont let it slough off naturally, you can pull ink out of your tattoo. Scratching can also achieve this.
Can You Put Lotion On A Tattoo Right Away
It’s recommended by professional tattoo artists that you should leave your tattoo alone for a day before washing and applying lotion. If you don’t want to wait as long, you should still wait at least five hours before washing your tattoo for the first time, after which you can apply lotion.
It’s recommended that you use a non-fragrance soap and lotion so you don’t risk irritating your skin.

Never Use Petroleum Based Products A+d Ointment Bepanthen Aquaphor Vaseline Bacitracin And Neosporin On Your Tattoos
These 6 products have a purpose, and it’s not tattoo aftercare or tattoo healing.
Sure, they may work great for diaper rash on a babys ass, but not something you should ever use on your fresh tattoo.
These 6 topical ointments contain toxic the ingredients, PETROLEUM, and MINERAL OIL.
Petroleum is a mineral oil jelly. A waste by-product of the crude oil refining and distillation process discovered on an oil rig in 1859. Yep! Petroleum as in petrol, the same source that keeps your vehicle running.
Mineral oil is a liquid form of petroleum jelly.
Clinical studies have shown Petroleum and mineral oils build up in the body. This has also proven to exacerbate hormonal imbalances and cause cancer. So why the hell would someone ever use these products on their new tattoo? – Misinformation, lack of understanding, confusion, ignorance, stupidity, whatever you want to call it. Hey, just being honest.
Petroleum-based products are cheap and create the illusion of soft, moisturized, and hydrated skin.
When applied, they seal the skin’s surface and block the natural respiration process. Petroleum suffocatesand stops moisture from leaving the skin. This can clog pores, causing blackheads, pimples, and whiteheads. Or worse, create a warm, moist environment for yeast and fungus to grow.
It gets even better! Sealing and suffocating your skin can cause premature aging. AGING skin causes FADED tattoos. Thus the reason why we developed Inked Ritual Tattoo Care Anti-Fade Serum.
How Often Should I Put Lotion On A Scabbing Tattoo
When your tattoo begins to scab it can become exceedingly dry. Although you may automatically think that applying more lotion is the best solution, you must be very careful.
Although most tattoos scab over very lightly, some tattoos can contain quite thick, dense scabs .
However, these big, thick scabs can also become very absorbent, and by applying too much lotion, especially when the scabs are still wet after cleaning/showering , you can cause the scabs to soak up too much moisture, making them become gooey and gloopy.
The main cause of this is the new layer of lotion trapping moisture beneath it, and with nowhere for the moisture to go, it is absorbed by the scabs. This is known as tattoo bubbling, and these sticky scabs then become much more prone to being pulled or ripped off.
Therefore, you should continue to apply lotion as often as you normally would unless the scabbing becomes very dry and looks like it may begin to start cracking, in which case clean the tattoo and make sure its completely dry before applying a small amount of lotion afterward.
You can make sure the area is completely dry by gently patting it with a clean paper towel to get rid of most of the moisture, and then allowing the tattoo to air-dry for another 10 minutes. Avoid using a towel that may transfer dirt and increase your risk of infection.
Without doing this your tattoo may look dry, but there is likely still moisture trapped within the scabs.

What To Do When Your Tattoo Isnt Healing
If you notice your tattoo isnt healing properly, you need to immediately seek out the advice of your tattoo artist or doctor. Tattoo infections are less common these days thanks to more sterile practices, but they are still dangerous when they do occur and can cause unsightly complications.
Signs of Infection
Excessive redness or itchiness, swelling, or discoloration around the tattooed skin may be an indication of infection. There could also be discharge from the area. If any of these symptoms are accompanied by a fever or chills, you need to seek medical attention immediately.
Washing and proper aftercare can prevent the possibility of infection. Using a sterile lotion like the options of our list can drastically reduce the likelihood of infection.
When Should You Apply Lotion To Your New Tattoo
Applying lotion or other tattoo aftercare products to your tattoo at least 3 times a day should work to keep it well hydrated and in good condition to heal quickly and efficiently.
The best tattoo lotion Ive ever personally used is a vegan aftercare product called After Inked Tattoo Aftercare Lotion. This stuff works amazingly well during the healing process not only by keeping your tattoo really well hydrated but also by soothing any annoying itching and irritation. When using it from the very start of the healing process, this lotion will help to decrease tattoo healing times and work towards eliminating any lingering dryness and scabbing.
Morning
As a rule, lotion should first be applied in the morning after waking up, after cleaning your tattoo.
As you sleep, your body becomes dehydrated as it loses water through sweat and vapor while breathing. Plus, you arent drinking at all during sleep. Therefore, your tattooed skin will normally start the day by being quite dry and tight, and applying lotion first thing should help to loosen it up and relax the area.
Midday
As the hours pass, your tattoo will gradually begin to dry up again. Therefore, its best to apply another layer of lotion to the area.
Before doing this, however, its essential that you clean the tattoo first before applying another layer of lotion.
Evening
Always clean your tattoo before going to bed and make sure to apply lotion afterward once the tattoo has dried.
