Can You Join The Military If You Are Suicidal
The military considers any suicide attempts in the past as disqualifying for military service. Additionally, any history of suicidal behavior that includes gestures or discussions about the thought is disqualifying. The military also previously disqualified those that had a history with self-mutilation.
The following conditions may disqualify you for military service:
a. Arthritis.
b. d. Fusion, congenital, involving more than two vertebrae. Any surgical fusion is disqualifying.
f. Juvenile epiphysitis with any degree of residual change indicated by X-ray or kyphosis.

What Tattoos Are Allowed In The Army
Well, the Cliff Notes version of the Armys tattoo policy goes something like this:
The wrist down and the neck up are off limits, with the exception of a single ring tattoo, otherwise its fair game.
While this might help to understand the policy in general terms, its actually a bit more nuanced than this.
Its true that there are no limits as to how many tattoos, and the size of those tattoos, a soldier can have on their arms, legs, chest, and torso.
You can be tatted up pretty good in the Army.
And while you cannot have any hand tattoos , you can have one ring tattoo per hand, located where you would naturally wear a ring.
Finally, permanent makeup such as eyebrows and eyeliner is allowed only on women, and must be applied conservatively and with modesty.
Where Can You Have Tattoos
To keep the polished and disciplined appearance of the Marine Corps, each Marine is allowed to have tattoos anywhere except on their head, neck, and hands. In addition, tattoos on the chest or back must be covered by a properly fitted crew neck t-shirt with no tattoo visibility. Tattoos on the lower arm may extend no further than a line around the wrist’s circumference measured at the wrist bone. Lastly, hand, finger, and wrist tattoos are prohibited, except for a single band tattoo of no more than of an inch.

Where Can I Not Get Tattoos
The biggest problems for those with tattoos will be if they are showing intolerance or if the tattoos are in the areas which are still not acceptable. These will include tattoos they view as racist, sexist, or any other kind of prejudice against a group as well as tattoos that show gang and extremist symbolism .
If you have tattoos containing intolerant messages and do not plan to remove them, you will not be accepted into the Navy.

Personality Conduct And Behavior Disorders
The following conditions may disqualify you for military service:
a. Personality, conduct or behavior disorders as evidenced by frequent encounters with law enforcement agencies, antisocial attitudes or behavior, which, while not sufficient cause for administrative rejection, are tangible evidence of impaired capacity to adapt to military service.
b. Personality, conduct or behavior disorders where it is evident by history, interview or psychological testing that the degree of immaturity, instability, personality inadequacy, impulsiveness or dependency will seriously interfere with adjustment in the Army as demonstrated by repeated inability to maintain reasonable adjustment in school, with employers and fellow workers, and with other social groups.
c. Other behavior disorders including but not limited to conditions such as authenticated evidence of functional enuresis or encopresis, sleepwalking or eating disorders that are habitual or persistent occurring beyond age 12, or stammering of such a degree that the individual is normally unable to express themselves clearly or to repeat commands.
d. Specific academic skills defects, chronic history of academic skills or perceptual defects, secondary to organic or functional mental disorders that interfere with work or school after age 12. Current use of medication to improve or maintain academic skills.
e. Suicide, history of attempted or suicidal behavior.

Recently in 2016, following an AFI 33-360 required review, the Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James communicated a shift away from their previous appearance and uniform policy.

Can You Have Tattoos In The Marines 2020
Tattoos NOT Allowed Because of Content The Marine Corps tattoo policy for 2020 states that ink is never allowed which is prejudicial to good order and discipline. Furthermore, tattoos that are drug-related, gang-related, extremist, obscene or indecent, sexist, or racist are not authorized under any circumstances.
Can You Get A Waiver For Tattoos In The Navy
Yes, you can receive permission for a tattoo that is otherwise not allowed under the terms of the Navy tattoo policy.
Though waivers are not handed out liberally, you may receive a pass for a neck tattoo that is larger than one inch in diameter.

Guardians Will Be Allowed To Sport Neck Tattoos
Space Force recruits will be allowed to have tattoos that extend to infinity and beyond or at least to the neck.
An Air Force memorandum shared by the popular Air Force amn/nco/snco Facebook page reveals that the tattoo policy for incoming guardians will be different from standards for airmen.
While the service will allow all recruits for both Air and Space Forces to have hand tattoos that dont cover more than 25% of the hands surface, only guardians will be allowed to have neck tattoos.
Applicants with neck tattoos are not authorized to dual track with the USAF or list any USAF specific AFSC in the job preference tab, the memo says.
But dont go getting a sick choker tattoo if youre hoping to float among the stars. The neck tattoo policy is still fairly strict.
Guardians will be allowed only one neck or behind-the-ear tattoo, and it cannot exceed more than 1-inch in size.

So far, the updated policy hasnt been added anywhere on either the Space Force or Air Force websites. The memo also doesnt provide any information about current airmen and guardians, and whether or not they will be able to get hand or neck tattoos if they are already enlisted or commissioned.

Miscellaneous Conditions Of The Extremities
The following conditions may disqualify you for military service:
a. Arthritis.
Active, subacute or chronic arthritis.
Chronic osteoarthritis or traumatic arthritis of isolated joints of more than a minimal degree, which has interfered with the following of a physically active vocation in civilian life or that prevents the satisfactory performance of military duty.
b. Chronic Retropatellar Knee Pain Syndrome with or without confirmatory arthroscopic evaluation.
c. Dislocation if unreduced, or recurrent dislocations of any major joint such as shoulder, hip, elbow or knee or instability of any major joint such as shoulder, elbow or hip.
d. Fractures.
Malunion or non-union of any fracture, except ulnar styloid process.
Orthopedic hardware, including plates, pins, rods, wires or screws used for fixation and left in place except that a pin, wire or screw not subject to easy trauma is not disqualifying.
e. Injury of a bone or joint of more than a minor nature, with or without fracture or dislocation, that occurred within the preceding six weeks: upper extremity, lower extremity, ribs and clavicle.
f. Joint replacement.
g. Muscular paralysis, contracture or atrophy, if progressive or of sufficient degree to interfere with military service and muscular dystrophies.
h. Osteochondritis dissecans.
i. Osteochondromatosis or multiple cartilaginous exostoses.
j. Osteoporosis.
k. Osteomyelitis, active or recurrent.
The Navy Will Now Allow Sailors To Wear Neck Tattoos And Sleeves
The updated regulations were made in an effort to attract young people, who are increasingly wearing body art.

In an effort to maintain its appeal among young people, the Navy has changed its rules about tattoos to allow sailors who have body art on their necks, behind their ears, and on their arms in full arm sleeves to enlist.
The updated regulations effectively lift the limit on size and number of tattoos, except for neck tattoos, which can only measure one inch in any direction, according to the a press release.
Sailors can also wear tattoos below their elbows and knees, even if it makes them visible in short-sleeved uniforms. The changes will go into effect on April 30.
“This policy update is being made in response to the increased popularity of tattoos in those currently serving, and from the population that Navy draws its recruits,” spokesperson for the Chief of Naval Personnel Lieutenant Commander Nate Christensen said in a statement sent to BuzzFeed News.
We just got to the point where we realized we needed to be honest with ourselves and put something in place that was going to reflect the realities of our country and the needs of our Navy, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Mike Stevens told the Navy Times in an interview on March 30.
Arm tattoos also had to be shorter than the wearers hand, per the old rules.
