Red Light Therapy And Tattoos

What Are Some Alternatives To Led Light Therapy

ANTI-AGING SKIN BENEFITS OF RED LIGHT LED THERAPY| DR DRAY

There are two other main types of light therapy used on the skin: laser resurfacing and IPL . Lasers and IPL damage layers of skin, which triggers a repair process.

LED is much gentler, emitting wavelengths of light energy that target skin cells without causing damage. Generally speaking, laser treatments and IPL are stronger, more expensive, and far more effective than LED light therapy, but they also come with more potential risks and side effects.

  • Laser resurfacing: Lasers use a concentrated beam of light to treat a variety of skin issues. Some remove hair, some treat redness, and others are used for skin resurfacingto reduce the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and scars erase tattoos and tighten lax skin. The resurfacing lasers fall into two camps: non-ablative and ablative. Non-ablative lasers pass through the top layers of skin to target deeper tissue and have minimal downtime. Deeper, ablative lasers remove top layers of skin and usually require local anesthesia or sedationand downtime is significant.
  • IPL: IPL is used to treat sun damage, brown spots, birthmarks, broken blood vessels, rosacea, and varicose veins. Its similar to laser treatments, but IPL has many wavelengths of light, transmitted in pulsesunlike lasers, which use a concentrated beam.

Do I Need To Continue To Use The Light As Much When I Start Seeing Results

Yes. Just because youre seeing results, it doesnt mean that your skin cells are finished doing their jobs. Its just that the results of their efforts are starting to become something you can see and/or feel. Keep up the treatments until you reach your goal level of results. Then you can start a weekly maintenance schedule.

How Is Red Light Therapy Used

Ever since the initial experiments in space, there have been hundreds of clinical studies and thousands of laboratory studies conducted to determine if RLT has medical benefits.

Many studies have had promising results, but the benefits of red light therapy are still a source of controversy. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services , for example, has determined that there isnt enough evidence to show that these devices are better than currently existing treatments for treating wounds, ulcers, and pain.

Additional clinical research is needed to prove that RLT is effective. At the moment, however, theres some evidence to suggest that RLT may have the following benefits:

Its important to note that when RLT is used with cancer treatments, the light is only used to activate another medication. Other light therapies have been used to help with some of the conditions above. For instance, studies have found that white light therapy is more effective at treating symptoms of depression than red light. Blue light therapy is more commonly used for acne, with limited effectiveness.

Red light wavelengths arent the only wavelengths to be studied for medical purposes. Blue light, green light, and a mixture of different wavelengths have also been the subject of similar experiments in humans.

There are other kinds of light-based therapies available. You can ask your doctor about:

What Are The Benefits Of Led Light Therapy

Each different wavelength of light benefits the skin in its own way.

  • Red lights collagen-building effects make it useful in anti-aging treatments. It can help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while mildly tightening skin. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, its also suitable for soothing the irritation of rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema.
  • Blue light is a proven-effective acne treatment that reduces breakout-causing bacteria and soothes inflammation.
  • Yellow light has more shallow penetration, so its useful for surface skin concerns, like sun damage, redness, and visible blood vessels.
  • Green light, while less studied and less commonly encountered, may accelerate wound-healing activity.

Your Microblading and shading session includes a free consultation day of appointment, numbing twice and throughout the procedure, design/mapping the eyebrows and pigment selection. Shading is usually done at the day of touch up after all strokes have been defined and corrected. After the Microblading and shading session is complete we have you lie down and we use a handheld LED device over the brow area to help reduce swelling and pain. This LED light therapy is effective in helping speed up the healing time. This Microblading, shading and LED session includes a touch up at 6 weeks. LED light therapy would be applied at touch up session as well.

Light slim LED light therapy does not share the same wavelengths of light with UV rays that the sun has that are known to fade tattoo color. The LED light session is approximately 15 minutes and is implemented to help speed up healing and recovery. It is completely safe over the eyebrows after Microblading and DOES not fade the color. The UV rays from the sun are extremely harsh and different and over time will fade the tattoo. Light slim LED therapy is 100% approved over Microblading.

Infrared Technology: A New Answer To ‘tattoo Regret’

Oct. 20, 2000 — Maybe you feel that ‘Winona Forever’ doesn’t really capture your inner heart anymore. Or perhaps the Rolling Stones’ signature mouth with the tongue hanging out plastered over your arm isn’t helping you get the respect of your kids. One of the many contradictions of youth seems to be that the young think that they will live forever — but they don’t realize that their tattoos will, too.

And one of the realities of middle age is that a mistake of youth, which may have cost only $10-$50 to get, will now cost $1,000-$5,000 to get rid of. It will also take multiple sessions of laser surgery, different lasers for different colors within the tattoo, and a whole lot of time and effort.

A new infrared device, however, has the potential to make tattoo removal much less expensive and less of a hassle because it can remove all the colors in fewer sessions than is typically required of laser surgery, says Tolbert S. Wilkinson, MD. He presented research on the device recently at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The device, known as a tattoo removal infrared coagulator , works by creating a superficial burn on the skin, thus obliterating the pigment from the tattoo ink.

“I’m always excited by new technology, and Wilkinson deserves a lot of credit for finding an affordable method of tattoo removal for a group of people who need the treatment,” says Paul J. Carniol, MD, who also commented on the new technique for WebMD.

Does Red Light Therapy Work For Everybody

Yes, it should. Red light therapy will work for the minimization of scarring, inflammation, fine lines, and several other skin conditions. The amount of time that it takes for a visible difference to occur will vary from one person to the next, depending on several factors including the type of skin condition to be corrected and its severity. Results will usually start to be seen in anywhere from 24 hours to 2 months of proper use, or under 20 minutes for pain relief with infrared and red light.

As the results usually occur gradually, the best way to monitor the difference is by taking weekly or monthly pictures with a good quality camera, at the same time of the day, in the same lighting. Looking in the mirror is not always the best gauge of progress as it is much more difficult to notice subtle, gradual improvements over time.

Pbmt With Red Light Therapy

The benefits of red light therapy are unproven. There are major issues with studies looking at PBMT with red light. In many of them, the researchers have used animal models or cells. The trials involving humans have had small sample sizes, absent blinding, or a lack of control groups.

PBMT with red light is generally safe. LED devices, in particular, have an excellent safety profile. Wavelengths in the visible and near-infrared ranges do not carry the same safety concerns as UV light.

Recent concerns have been raised regarding light therapy use on patients with tattoos. With tattoos increasing in popularity in most segments of society, professional athletes included, health care practitioners are often forced to use light treatment on tattooed skins.

Excessive heating is possible using Class III and IV lasers because of their effective irradiance. There have been reports of skin blistering over black tattoos, with the blisters most probably resulting from unintentional heating of metal salts and iron oxides in the black pigment of the tattoo.

Can Red Light Therapy Be Combined With Treatment Lights Of Other Colors

Yes. In fact, some conditions will experience more improvements when two colors of light therapy are used instead of one. For instance, many acne patients experience a broader spectrum of benefits when they use red and blue light therapy, combined, instead of one or the other. Some customers prefer to use both red and amber or red and green for anti-aging treatments.

What Else Do I Need To Know About Red Light Therapy

There are a lot of variables to consider when thinking about red light therapy:

  • Is RLT covered by my health insurance? Red light therapy is typically not a covered treatment. You may want to call your health insurance company before seeking treatment.
  • How many treatments will I need? Youll likely need ongoing treatments. This is not a one-time treatment for most skin conditions. Youll need to be seen one to three times a week for weeks or even months. Also, is there a need for additional touch-up treatments? This may add up to a lot of time and considerable out-of-pocket costs.
  • Will I achieve the desired results? Everyones skin is different so results can vary. Also, the wavelength of the red light source ranges. The wavelength affects how deeply the light penetrates your skin. The wavelength of the red light device being used in a doctors office versus in your at-home device could affect your desired result.
  • Do you trust the experience of the person providing the red light therapy? For example, is a tanning salon a place you feel comfortable receiving this treatment or might it be better to first be seen and possibly treated by a medical professional?
  • Is red light therapy an appropriate treatment for my skin condition? Are other, more scientifically vetted approaches a better choice for my skin condition? See your healthcare provider to confirm a diagnosis and discuss appropriate treatment options.

Is Red Light Therapy Effective

BEST Red Light Therapy Masks for Anti-Aging Your Skin FAST!

Most experts say that they dont know yet if RLT is effective for all its claimed uses. Most say that the studies published so far show some potential for certain conditions, but that more studies need to be conducted. Red light therapy is still an emerging treatment thats generating growing interest. But at this point in time, theres not enough evidence to support most uses.

The gold standard of studies to determine if a product is effective is a randomized, placebo-controlled trial. This means that a certain number of people with the same range of characteristics get either the study treatment or a placebo for treatment of the same condition. Some studies also include a comparison to another commonly used treatment. Results can then be compared between the emerging treatment versus no treatment or versus a current standard treatment.

Many of the published studies using RLT included only a small number of people, didnt include a placebo group, werent conducted in humans or were limited to cell tissue itself. Most researchers say results so far look promising, but that more quality studies with larger numbers of people are needed.
